HMF has Night Owl listed as deep wine red as well as mauve. Purple to anything with pink shading is okay, although purple to a lavender shading would be better. I am not sure about the red, as everything in the front yard is pink, lavender, white, or purple. Purple Skyliner appears to have the best color range but I am not sure how it will perform here. Wild Blue Yonder is possible too, but after re -evaluating the space, I think something with small flowers would look better. I am beginning to consider planting a small white climbing rose for the area because finding the right purple is tough, or I am just fried. Thank you for all of the input. Fantastic list of seeds! I think it is just great that you have focused your life on nature at such a young age. I too would love to have 10 (maybe 5) acres someday to plant a wonderland of natives plants, and am already doing that on 1.25 acres. Difference is, my interest didn't come into sharp focus until age 45. :) There are quite a few seeds on this list I am interested in, and I checked your want list and I have a few on that list. Maybe we can do a trade this fall? Just a note - on your want list is Cynanchum louiseae - this is an extremely invasive non-native vine that is becoming a serious problem in the Northeast US. And it has the additional problem that Monarch butterflies will "sense" it is in the Milkweed family, lay eggs on it, and then it will kill the caterpillars because it is toxic to Monarch larvae.

Beth, Please see the difference between your Blue Boy picture on help me find and the other pictures of blue boy on Help me find: Your Blue boy (many petals): Other Blue Boy (less petals and different flower): They are two different roses though the names are the same. I know because I bought a Blue boy bush this year and on its label it was written that it is developed by Interplant, year 2000. on the label it was also written repeat blooming. I bought it because i liked the flowers on the photo of the label and because it repeated. When I went home and researched the rose, I was shocked that on Help me Find it was written that Blue Boy does not repeat. I called the shop and they explained to me that my rose is a different rose that repeats. Anyway, I will understand what I got when I see how it blooms this year.

Virtually all "purple" roses can vary greatly depending upon all the usual issues...soil/water pH, nutrients, heat, intensity of light, moisture, etc. The only "purple" rose I've yet grown which didn't have been Cardinal Hume and Purple Buttons. All the others have expressed anything from almost white to almost the right color expected from them. Those pigments demand the right range of conditions to express themselvs appropriately. It hasn't mattered whether the rose was an OGR or a modern "purple". Some have behaved better when provided protection from the light and heat intensities. Some have required acidifying the soil, a few times to the extreme. Some have only provided the desired colors in very early springs or late falls during unusually cooler and wetter conditions.
