New thread for layout help...1983 kitchen update
Comments (25)I think this preserves the ceiling grid while still giving you a large walk-in pantry. It's large enough that you could put the MW in it - counter top model is sufficient since it will be out of sight - and install the oven below a 42" counter, something like this but with no uppers. This would give you landing space for the oven and for the fridge without a counter extending towards the sink wall, potentially directing traffic closer to the cook top. I lengthened the peninsula and eliminated the L counter you had around the duct closet. I was afraid of crowding the aisle between it and the peninsula. (could find measurements so I'm guessing aisles based on scale of appliances.) If you don't want to do the above, another way to get some kind of landing zone near the ovens would be a drop down or flip up table. That would provide counter when you need it but it would be out of the way the rest of the time. Here are ideas:...See MoreHELP-Kitchen update dilemma...Quartz/Trilium, paint colors
Comments (2)I would not spend that kind of money on old cabinets with worn spots. Start from the beginning and get a KD in there. You may have to save and wait to do what you want, but what you're suggesting is "lipstick on a pig". Sorry to be so brutal but we've seen this happen SO many times on GW, and 2 years later, owner is wondering if she can reuse her very expensive countertops. The answer is usually "probably not"....See Morehelp! kitchen update needed
Comments (1)The community would need a lot more information from you to help much. Budget, extend of upgrades, a layout of the room and surrounding areas with measurements, those are the types of things that would be helpful. It looks like you have a tight space, so semi-custom cabinetry might not work if you wanted to replace cabinetry, and you might be limited to custom to get the sizes you needed to fit back into the space. One suggestion often given for kitchens with soffits is to remove the soffit and take new cabinets up to the ceiling. I personally wouldn't really recommend painting your existing cabinetry, but it does look like a strong case for something we'd call "refacing," where you order new doors and drawer fronts to provide a fresher look. Then the box frames are finished to match. New flooring and new lighting would probably also be up for discussion here....See MoreNeed help with Kitchen update...flooring and counter color.
Comments (3)I think you need to tear out the flooring. If you try to put something over top it’ll be too high and you’ll have issues with the dishwasher and sliding door. Also, have you quoted quartz? For resale that might be best, but if you do go with laminate counters i would choose a simple, neutral pattern and not a faux marble. My biggest issue with a laminate counter is you can’t do an undermount sink....See Morefidlfreek_justice_4_sophie
