Installing a Carrier Infinity gas furnace/ac system
Comments (3)miz 3406121 Active Systems INFINITY 21 PURON AC CARRIER AIR CONDITIONING 24ANA136A31 CNPV*4221A**+UI 58MV(B,C)100-20 37000 13.80 18.50 1 pricing is very good. top of line residential equipment. the Infinity thermostat/control is simply the best on the market and the only way to go with an Infinity system. equipment model numbers listed are correct. you do want a new refrigerant lineset. what size outside condenser are you replacing? was a heat/cool load calc performed to verify correct equipment size? You do want the "T" tin plated evap coil. verify with dealer. I prefer venting out the side if possible over roof venting. what are you doing about a whole house air cleaner for IAQ and protection of blower motor and evap coil? do you have any issues with ductwork system that need addressing? ductwork is often the third leg of a new installation that is often overlooked. have you considered a Carrier ext warranty? I would only use a Carrier FAD-Factory Authorized Dealer. IMO Good Luck!...See MoreRheem Split A/C and Furnace System -- Good Idea?
Comments (4)Thanks for the responses and information! I've included as a term for the deal that the dealer must provide the AHRI certification demonstrating to me (and the IRS) that the system he installs qualifies for the Federal tax credit. So, I have every confidence it will qualify. I'm *so* looking forward to having this new system installed over the holiday weekend (love that it's sales tax free this weekend!) and, hopefully, lowering the electric bills while being more comfy in the Gulf Coast heat & humidity! Thanks, again, for your time and input!!!...See MoreRepair vs. Replace 16 yr old Carrier AC / Furnace
Comments (1)Well let's look at the dollars. Many systems don't last for more than 12 years. That would calculate to about $1500 per year for 12 years, to pay for the cost of a new TRANE, whereas, you pay $1000 this year and maybe another 1000 a year or so later. If you have a leak, then you may need a new coil (Because no one will spend the 3 hours to fix it) they will sell you a new coil, then spend 3 hours to install it. Questionable logic, but most common of all repairs. Peace of mind is worth something. I had a customer that claimed peace of mind was more important than money, but he always wanted a super low cost on all repairs. The TRANE 'new bid' will probably cost you $1500 per year for the next 12 years. It will need to be replaced before that time, or sloppy techs will force you to replace it sooner. The old junk is paid for. Replace the motor, contactor, caps every year, and you will never cost more than $1000. Even if the tech really hoses you. TRANE sells piece of mind, and claims to be the best. Why don't they sell more equipment than the lower quality systems? Because most people realize that TRANE is just a name put on the same components as sold by everyone. I have a very expensive touch screen thermostat that did not last 6 months, with a TRANE logo on it. To get warrantee, I need to show a sales receipt for the stat. I was the repair guy, not the installer. The stat was made by Honeywell and labeled by TRANE. If the stat did not have the logo on it, Home Depot would sell me a new one for 1/3 of the list price TRANE uses. I could return it without any problems. Instead, it sits on my desk as a reminder of what a company can do to its customers. You wonder why I don't like some manufacturers. This is the reason. I have an account with TRANE that I can use. It is inactive this year so far. The same as I have an account with Goodman. It was inactive until a couple of weeks ago. The Carrier account is the one we use this year. But not to confuse the issue, all manufacturers are hardnosed on their branded product. Many warrantees never happen, because of crappy return policies. Today I am looking at a $360 stat labeled by TRANE. Now for the good news; I can return the stat maybe, if I cheat and lie to TRANE. I try to never lie or cheat, so I guess the stat will be a constant reminder why I don't care for TRANE....See MoreNeed new AC, How do I Match With 8 yr old Furnace
Comments (1)The evaporator coil didn't necessarily have to be replaced with the furnace - maybe they wanted to make it easier for themselves (at your expense) to have a coil mount flush on top of the new furnace. You'll want to replace the evaporator coil with one designed for R-410A refrigerant and one that is an acceptable match to whichever brand equipment you chose to have installed. Carrier makes good equipment, and most brands are comparable these days. So you could have a Carrier coil over the furnace - the furnace is just responsible for moving adequate airflow over the coil (which should be adjusted when the new a/c is installed). Your C26-41 Lennox coil indicates a 3 ton nominal capacity rating, so I'm guessing that may be the size of your outdoor unit. Yes, 100k and 3 tons sounds like quite a bit for the space you're trying to heat and cool....See Morelonestar123
