Need help decorating with purple sofa!!
Comments (45)Sorry, I forgot to thank Sandyponder and loribee for the rug photos. Also, the chairs are a dark graphite not granite. so, basically charcoal. Luckygal, I don't have the furniture yet. However, my DH is convinced the walls need to be lighter. I'm o.k. with that. I've had dark walls for 5 1/2 years and I like change. Maybe we're getting classier. Sorry, I know I shouldn't throw that in there. I hate when people fight. Anyway, we have horrible light carpet that we are going to change so, I'm afraid with dark walls, dark floors and dark furniture it might be too dark. Oceana, The room is so ugly right now; I'd be embarassed to show you even if I can fix it. Maybe, once it's fixed, I'll be able to share how horrible it was....See MoreNeed advice - new/expensive curtains look BLAH!
Comments (52)Lisa, you didn't mention if you want to add some some complementary color or stay with your existing color scheme. If you want to do the latter, the room actually has a lot of different fairly dark and/or cool colors in large masses -- beige (walls), blue and dark brown (curtains), dark and light gray (sectional, ottoman, rug), and dark brown/black iron (coffee table and curtain rods, table lamp). There’s also no pattern and little texture. If you want to add some sparkle, eliminate one color, and help tie the disparate elements together, I’d consider replacing at least some of the dark/iron elements with silver ones. I can’t tell if the round wall hanging is sparkly. A few ideas: Especially if you stay with the blues and grays, take Ingrid's suggestion about a chair by the window. Maybe something like this from Ballard, You don’t need a lot of pillows, just a few, maybe a pair of one and one of another; these are all from Etsy at TheHomeCentric, Pier 1 mirror, PB coffee table, PB table lamp, And PB has pewter and polished nickel curtain hardware. Or, to better tie in the brown from the curtains, instead of silver use warm brass and bronzy elements, like this PB mirror, And Ballard has brass curtain hardware…...See Morewhat curtain color goes with mustard and navy blue sofa
Comments (17)The rug is OK and I am loathe to tell someone to spend extra money when they just asked about curtains, but if you have an alternate spot for the rug or don't mind donating it to charity or something, I think you could do better with a different rug. The rug you have is nice, but very geometric and a whole different color palette than the couch. They kind of fight for dominance in the room. You might be able to find a rug that plays nicer with your couch, in terms of color and design. Maybe just work on the curtains, not worry too much about the rug, but then after you get the curtains, keep your eyes out for a better rug that "ties the room together." (Esoteric movie reference from "The Big Lebowski.") Use the floral design from the couch as your color palette when making choices for the room. Don't worry about the walls, they are pale enough to fade into the background once you get the curtains and some art up on the walls....See MoreNeed help with family room curtains and decorating advice.
Comments (12)Solid color for window treatments . overhead lighting is only one layer of lighting for a room you will need lamps maybe evn floor lamps and we need to know the size of the room the pieces of furniture you are having upholstered and their sizes. What is the tile in the picture of the fabric. I would for sure take the light out of the fan and mke sure all the lighting is LEDs ideally in 4000K to keep the colors you choose true in all times of day. I would choose a color from the rug, you will be getting, for the window coverings most likely drapes and make sure they are at leasy 2 1/2 x the width of the rod I have no idea how much natural light you get in the space but if quite a lot you will solard shades to protect your new floors and fabrics they will provide heat and UV protection and still allow you to keep the view during the day and also provide privacy during the day. Make sure you get a darker color for the shades in 10% they give the best protection and allow the best view. Do you have the spot for the TV already then please share that ....See MoreAmit Khorana
