Need help to create color without chaos #1 of 3

Since purchasing our (zone 5b) home 9 years ago, we pulled out the BORING builder-chosen arborvitae and holly that previously lined our front facade when they became grossly overgrown. Not knowing better, at the time, I then replaced those with plants I enjoy. Unfortunately, most are deciduous so was very blah in the winter. And we have long winters in Northwest Pennsylvania. Although we would have truly enjoyed the 4-season aspect of the crabapple, it was planted on the property line, which often annoyed our neighbor, and was not scab-resistant so began defoliating soon after flowering. It was fragrant, though. The house faces Southeast and is full sun until late afternoon.

Challenges:

1) smaller replacement tree, 15x12'

2) some evergreens for zone 5 winters

3) integrate as many of the existing deciduous shrubs and perennials as possible

4) create design harmony that isn't boring or chaotic

5) keep some cutting garden function also, as I bring bouquets to office and hospital visits

6) use color restraint (hard for me.) Prefer the oranges: peach to rust, coral, gold and violet

Will post more soon. Adding all photos at once sent houzz into a hang.
