do I need to strip leaves off cuttings for winter?
Comments (2)I always strip the leaves off my cuttings. It will grow new leavs when it is ready and less stressed. Hopefully, you did not chop away below the "Y" on your mature plant, as it will take longer to develop new buds next year. I would change the water every few days until you start to notice little white nubbies on the parts submerged. Then I would plant in potting soil, and put under lights. Others may disagree, but this is what I do, and it works for me....See Morerose slugs...can I cut off affected leaves???
Comments (9)Thanks jim and seil zone. There is still a LOT of green in the leaves. Very few have been totally skelotized. So I'll just leave them on. Yes, I did spray undersides the best I could. I'm going to spray a few more times at least. My soap instructions says I can spray again a day after first using but I'm not so sure. Would you do that? Or better to wait a few days between sprays? seil...I read that Sevin and Malathion and a few others work. We have so many bees around yard I hate to use this stuff though. I did however read, as far as bees go, that it would be OK to use these after they go to bed, whatever time that is lol. If things worsen I'll try this and hope I don't kill off to many good bugs. THANK YOU for your thoughts. Appreciate you taking the time....See MoreWhy did all the leaves fall off 1 of 2 of my newly planted rose bush
Comments (25)Yeah that sounds like a good idea Sheila...I never thought of something like that? How do those work exactly? And Seil I didn't plant in cardboard as in 'packaging the Rose came in' I mean I had moving style boxes I broke down and then I wet them down really good to put under mulch along the slope to deter weeds. I made sure to leave about 5" or so around each plant bare with a little mulch. I did however leave the soil on it when I planted, I didn't try to make bareroot? You think that could've caused it? I just want to know how to save these ...also it rained last night...not sure how hard because it ended at least an hour or two before I woke up so when I stuck finger in soil down so deep that I had no finger left! It felt pretty moist all the way down...but idk how much rain feel so idk if that could happen from the rain we just had overnight? And today has been overcast with next to no sun all day..so sun wasn't out to dry it out....See MoreBack fence section - should I leave it off?
Comments (6)A single gate in the back fence is best for people in a garden. A double gate will look more industrial ag. Take all three play items and group them together as single functioning play area on the left or right side of the yard (whichever neighbor's side jabbering children will annoy the most - ha, just kidding). Grouping them to one side will look much better than the current line of it across the back and open more of the view of the borrowed landscape. Let your kids help decide on the exact placement. They will intuitively know how they want to move from one item to the next....See Moregeezerfolks_SharonG_FL
