Kitchen sliding door window treatment options

We have a large 3 panel window in our kitchen with a sliding door in the middle. The current vertical blinds on the window needs to be replaced badly. I can't decide if we want to go with vinyl vertical binds, fabric vertical blinds, or vertical honeycomb shades. The honeycomb shades end up costing about $1000, while the vertical blinds are $200-300. My biggest concern for the area is that we do have a patio that we go in and out of pretty often (especially during warmer months) so I need it to be durable. We also have dogs and a kid on the way so it also needs to be resistant to that. We also put the dog food bowls near the blinds so being able to clean them in the event they get dirty is important too. I've also toyed around with the idea of just doing curtains, but it just doesn't seem like a good fit in the kitchen. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated! I'm very undecided on this.

I agree with doing roller shades for this type of lifestyle and need. Roller shades will be more expensive then vertical blinds but they offer much more then just durability.

Take down the curtain rod and remove the painters tape. Since you don't need privacy, find some art that will fit on the wall by the light switch and the wall at right angles to the right side of the door.

Looking closer, it doesn’t look like you even have room for an inside mount. You might need to get drapery person over yo measure and look at what you can do. Might mean a custom arrangement above trim moulding. Might get sliding panels in but that will obstruct your view.

Hey There: inside mount (!) pleated or honeycomb shades for the windows are great and very functional. But this doesn't work with your sliding door...so the only option that I see are vertical blinds staged to the right side of the sliding door. On the left side you have an outlet and switch, so this is not an option. You need something sliding on a sliding door, everything else will make it inconvenient to use. Panel blinds to the left will also work...but they will block 1/4 of your door all the time... You have such a nice view I can see why you would want to retain it during the day. I'd mount one rod from wall to wall, and use drapery panels. One panel on each end and wider panels in the middle around the sliders so you can pull them closed. Use a lightweight lined fabric so you can get teh fullness you need without taking up too much space. Don't use shutters. They block a LOT of light even when open, and you would never have a clear view outdoors.

I third roller shades. My sister in law had them installed over their patio sliding door and they look great. They have 2 shades, one for each door, so it gives them a lot of options depending on how much light they want to let in.

I would definitely use curtains. They can be kept completely out of the way when using the door, they come in many fabrics and prices, and they can be washable. You could use grommet top panels on a decorative rod. They are very kid and pet friendly. In addition....I abhor roller shades...:)
