You can't go wrong with Miele. Their condenser dryers work just as well and as fast as their vented models. You might also want to look at the Bosch Axxis line of laundry appliances. My MIL has had an Axxis laundry pair with a condenser dryer for about 3-1/2 years. She's been very pleased. A couple of things you might want to consider before going with a combo machine. Typically, you can only dry loads that are half the size of a maximum wash load. That means if the machine can accommodate a 12 lb. wash load, you'll only be able to dry 6 lbs (dry laundry) at one time. You'll either have to remove half the wet wash load before starting the dry cycle, or you'll be limited to half-size wash loads if you want the machine to automatically switch to the drying cycle after the wash cycle. Be sure to ask about this when buying and consult the owner's manual. Salesmen are notorious for forgetting to mention this little detail. Also, the combo machines generally aren't as fast at drying a load as a stand-alone condenser dryer. Some can take up to twice as long. And finally, if you typically wash multiple loads in succession, doing laundry with a combo machine will take you much longer. You won't be able to move a load of washed laundry from the washer to the dryer, then start a new load of wash while the first load is drying. You'll have to wait for the first load to wash AND dry before you can start a second load. Hope this helps.

I think GE has one too. Spanish manufactuer Fagor sells a ventless dryer and a decent-capacity 240v washer. If the LG 24" combination washer/dryer can have an LG ventless dryer stacked on it, that would be a convenient setup - you can have the washer do the whole job when you have smaller laundry loads, and need to use the separate dryer only when you have lots of clothes and not much time. Otherwise, I'd go with Bosch for its good capacity and fast water heating thanks to its 240 volt power supply (the washer plugs into an outlet on the dryer, and the dryer plugs into the 240V wall outlet and powers both machines). Asko worth a look too. Miele is best quality but expensive and the washer is 120v so it will be slower.

I said previously, "1. The LG combo unit is an excellent solution for those with no other option." Let me qualify that statement a bit. Yes, if you have no other option, you can have a compact, all-in-one unit that doesn't require 240VAC or a vent. However, it's perhaps better stated, that, while it's a good-looking machine which otherwise functions very well, you should definitely expect 2-6 hour drying times--but, typically, 4-6 if you're a "normal" person. Reviewers which commented, "Most of my loads are done in 2.5 hours," must be washing extremely small loads. Perhaps, a few blouses, and some socks. Certainly no jeans or towels. Add a single pair of jeans to the mix, or a hoodie--and, bam--you're at 4-6 hours drying time. Previous to our purchase, I read every review on the unit I could find. As I said earlier, positive reviews seemed to outnumber negative reviews by about 10:1. I had assumed the few negative reviewers simply overloaded the dryer, which is basically probably true. Knowing this, we thought we were willing to endure longer drying times in exchange for a much expanded pantry/linen closet. But having a gas dryer still connected made the comparison glaringly clear. A vented gas dryer is not only far less expensive in energy costs, it dries clothes 10-30 times faster than an un-vented condenser dryer. For example, something that took only 8 minutes to dry in the gas dryer, took about 4 hours to dry in the LG unit--that's 30x longer. It's these kinds of numbers which are completely lacking in any of the reviews. If drying a pair of jeans, a towel, and a few shirts takes 4-6 hours to dry, it's simply not practical for most people for two reasons: a.) energy costs; b.) the dryer makes its "drain-spin" noise at 20-second intervals, continuously for several hours. Again, we thought the "set-it-and-go-to-work," or "set-it-and-go-to-sleep" approach would greatly lessen the impact of the extended drying times. But, "set-it-and-go-to-sleep" simply doesn't work in a small house--it's too disruptive. My recommendation? Buy this unit if: a.) You have absolutely no other option. b.) All combo washer/dryer in one are mediocre at best. That includes the one or two Miele makes and doesn't market in the US. Problem is that a washer can wash far more than a dryer can dry in the same drum space. It takes room for tumbling to take place to allow clothes to dry. The combo units are the size of a 6 kilo washer drum and no more. So you end up with very small loads that take a long time to dry. If you're doing underwear and towels for one person maybe it would be almost okay. But anything more in terms of load, and you're asking for trouble. Buy separate units if you have any way to fit them in. Ventless or condenser dryers work well. They're quite common in Europe and becoming more usual here in the US. They work by heating the clothes far hotter than a standard dryer, and then condensing the steam that rolls off them and pumping it into the drain or storing it onboard the dryer and signaling you when it's time to empty the water storage unit. Condenser dryers also take longer to do a load of clothes and you MUST le them go thru their cool down cycle or the damp hot clothes can give you a nasty steam burn! Most have locking doors that won't open until the contents have cooled enough to avoid injury to the user. . . so to recap, they're slower, hotter, and cost more to run because of the heat and the fact they run longer. BUT IF YOU HAVE NO WAY TO VENT A STANDARD DRYER, they're much better than hanging clothing in the bathroom to dry! We had one in Europe for three years and got used to it. Ours was a Miele with a matching washer and worked great. The condenser unit has to be pulled out and cleaned every now and then (once every month or so) and a light and signal tell you when. It's not an awful task but it does take fifteen or twenty minutes to get it right. One of those things the maid will never do properly. Like changing the bag in the vacuum. Just doesn't seem to occur to household help for some reason! The ASKO high end Washer and Dryer are said to be great design. They seem to have service problems sometimes and ASKO service is spotty in the US. Make sure you have factory service available in your area before you pop for the two grand the washer can cost. Also, get the super-extended waranty on Asko products from ASKO. A five year service extension is like $300 if purchased at the time you buy the washer. Well worth the money, I'm told.
