Which do you prefer for period bathroom?
Comments (7)Well--it sounds like universal approval of the two sconce option (4 for and 0 against, anyway :)!) I agree it looks more balanced with the two sconces, I just wasn't sure how I felt about a sconce over the toilet! kgwlisa--I know, I've been so slow on this project! The real horror is that I ripped out the vanity months ago, so I've been without a bathroom sink all that time. I finally have the first workman coming next week, so hopefully this seemingly small project will be wrapped up before we get too far into 2008! I remember that Athena sconce--I live in Seattle, so I spend too much time (and money) in the local Rejuvenation store! Are you using porcelain hardware as well? I know they have the Bennett porcelain towel bars, hooks, etc. on clearance, if they are still available. (I've stocked up!) Thanks for the opinions!...See MoreHelp! Which Plan for Storage around the Range Do You Prefer?
Comments (85)Ice, thanks for posting your lovely kitchen. I struggle with visualizing ideas, so it is really helpful! Funky, if we go with additional lighting I think you are right that the sconces are going to work better with the look and small space. It also makes a lot of sense to add a little additional light - it can always be turned down - and to have a couple lights that are task-specific or for mood. The artwork idea is so fun. I'm going to have to think about this! I also have that evil powder room wall, if I could find the right decoration. There's something terribly pleasing about having begun the kitchen planning with the thought, "Oh my, where am I going to put all my stuff? How is this ever going to work?" and to be drawing toward the conclusion and be thinking things like, "My storage plan around the range should be nothing, or art. Bbtrix, Thanks for hunting out this pictures for me. The style you pictured and the placement might look really good in this situation. The pulls are a kind of a strange color, "antique pewter," so maybe hard to match. The faucet is chrome and lighting fixtures in the dining area are currently dark bronze. So ... we're already getting patchworky, for better or worse. Here are the pulls - first is the stock photo, and the second is a photo I took when investigating flooring. (We're probably about to order the brown tile on the top.) The pull looks more silvery in direct light:...See MoreWhich porch do you prefer?
Comments (80)First thank you all for commenting. When I break ground I plan on starting a new thread and will start with a link to all the previous threads, including this one, which is why I wanted to make sure this one was updated with the "latest and greatest" in the exterior elevation. In fact last night I was looking over some of the old threads and was aghast at what I actually started with. While the original layout wasn't terrible, the elevations were ghastly. LOL. (And I'm being kind.) I'm truly thankful that so many of you stuck with me on my journey so far and were so helpful in getting my house to where it is now. A special shoutout to the architects, especially Renovator8, Virgil and ARG. Thanks Russ. I like it. How wide is it from window to window including the door and your trim? what change did you make to your friend's entry? Thank you ILoveRed. In the drawing above from window to window is probably a bit too wide in the elevation but it's correct on the plan. So it will probably be just a bit narrower, but I wanted to have it to show the builder how I wanted it built. It's about 9 1/2' from trim edge to trim edge. Oops. Here's the friend's entry. I've been debating about the molding around the outer frame of the door entry. With or without? On the right side elevation, what is the band under the study windows? That's actually behind the master (for now until we change it) but it's the A/C and pool equipment. Both need to be enclosed according to code. However I will NOT have AC's below my bedroom window, especially with my bed up against that wall! I'm expecting them to move it to behind the study....See MoreWhich floorplan layout do you prefer and how would you improve?
Comments (18)@Diana Bier Thank you for so many thoughtful notes The house is in NJ and is an existing structure. We are blowing out back to add square footage but cannot widen much (even if we got a variance) so not worth it. Cannot change entry to side of garage.. we do not have that much land. The plans are rough until we choose which general layout we really want to go with.. Plan A The sink in dining room is little nook for wet bar but I would definitely not do that. Don't need a family room and living room but that is generally style with houses here in NJ.. a family room off the kitchen area.. We could definitely do sliders for any closet doors.. I actually have no idea what that square is at the end of the hallway but would extend laundry if we chose that general layout to make closet perhaps.. Plan B I agree, my main issue is that door to stairs is tight - so to add entry space would get rid of that "wine room" to push hall closet there and then have the stairs push back maybe 3-4 ft Agreed, worried dining room may be too small.. would be nice to have table for eight And there would be no change in level on either plan (that was from early plan where they were not going to elevate 2nd floor and excavate out basement below but that's all changed)...See MoreKitchen Tune-up Zeeland, Sales & Design
