Anyone Ever Try Red Plastic Around Tomato plants?
Comments (2)Hi mike50. I'm also wondering if red vs. black plastics make a big difference in growing tomatoes. I've used WOWs last year and this year. Last year it allowed me to plant out tomatoes in Portland, Oregon late April. I was harvesting tomatoes a few weeks before my friends. I think it really works. If you have extra 1 liter soda bottles, there's stuff on the internet about making your own. I plant tomatoes in pots so that wasn't an option (and I don't drink that much soda!). I planted my tomatoes out last week and so far they're surviving!...See MoreLive pineapple plants with pineapples at Trader Joe's
Comments (6)My Yuzu tree also has fruit, but I have not counted how many. I also have a bottle of Yuzu juice that I have not yet opened. Yesterday I went to TJ's and bought two pineapple plants. I'm not sure how much sun to give them - the pineapple plantations I've seen were growing in full sun in the tropics, but when I put my other pineapple plant in full sun, the leaves seemed to get a bit burned, and so I put it in partial shade. The tag with the plant said "bright light" but also indicated that it could be grown indoors if you are not in zones 9-11. I put one of the new plants in full sun (see below) and the other one in partial shade, next to the other pineapple bromeliad. I will move the one in full sun if it starts to get burned. Comments (3)Yeah, I was thinking of putting it on my balcony so one side would definitely get less light. I think I'm going to email them to ask their thoughts. It's probably too heavy to turn. Do you think its worth going with cedar? Does it really make a difference in terms of rot?...See MoreAnyone trying to grow toothache plant?
Comments (5)I've only got one, it's this kind, not the Z. clava-herculis: http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=ZAHI2 I rescued it from elsewhere and planted it out on the property. My place isn't ideal for it, since I'm up on a hillside and the "soil" isn't ideal (to say the least!), and can be dry out here normally. So it hasn't exactly thrived, but it's tough and has survived some very bad years. It can be used as a host plant for the Giant Swallowtail....See Morebossyvossy
