With all these changes do you think the KT and like here will remain or disappear.

There is a lot of traffic here, so I would suspect it will stay. I think if it brings traffic to the site, it is a positive as far as Houzz is concerned.

I've wondered that also, it doesn't pertain to any HOUZZ product.

My fretting with the newest change was that at first it appeared to me Houzz was going to mix up the forums, requiring us to search through to find specific posts. I'm relieved to know this isn't the case, this time, at least.

I don't know Mamap. It's a good question and I guess time will tell.

I do have faith the technical glitches will - eventually - get worked out. This roll-out was pretty bad, and I know a lot of people are upset. Most of the really active forums have several threads about various issues, people are all over the map with their reactions.

My bigger concern is the loss of the "community" feel that GW has. Or at least had. :( Each forum has its regular crew, its own subculture and sense of history.

Think about all everyone has shared here at the KT. Tragedies, natural disasters, happy family stuff....

Now that GW has been absorbed into the much bigger HOUZZ community, and they're encouraging cross posting, I'm curious to see what happens to each of the forums.

I've been with GW for over a decade now. I rarely drop by here (I've been reading through all the active forums to see how everyone is dealing with this massive change), and there seems to be a pretty strong sense of shock and anger still percolating around.

My suspicion is that they're going to continue to refine, close, and merge forums and I honestly don't know what the long term prognosis is for this place. :(

If they were to decide to shut down the KT and/or other forums, I would hope that Houzz would announce it ahead of time in order to give the community an opportunity to exchange contact info and look into starting their own website if that's what enough people would like to do. It's very unsettling to wake up one morning to find that a community you've been part of no longer exists and you have no way to contact the people who were members of that community.

I hope it stays.

I hate change and I am not at all computer literate, other than the just very easy stuff, and I feel very badly that so many of my friends here have had problems. The only thing for me is the lack of the back button, but I can just close the window....so no big deal. I haven't had any trouble.....can't say I like the new way better....to me, it is the same, (except for the back button) that it was. I post on a windows 10 laptop using Chrome or on a Samsung phone and either one works the same as it did. I sincerely hope everyone can get their issues resolved. It would be a shame to lose so many members.

I would hate to have it disband.....I came when HGTV became so nasty, loved it here, and stayed, since 1999. Have met some lovely members and have felt sorrow when one passes away or leaves. Looked at some very old posts that I made or responded to, and felt again the sorrow when I saw some of the names that are no longer with us. "We are a village".

I have been wondering about this for awhile now. Sure does seem Houzz is going to center on what generates $$ for them. We can't blame them for that. But all this mess with their change and no one seeming to address or fix the problems.

Another thought I had is if the KT did just up and disappear I hope those of you all go to one of the still standing rooms and look for each other. Than you can at least make other plans.

Some of us worried about this a few years ago so one of the long standing valued members in the laundry room created a Facebook that's entirely private by invite only. At least this way members in the laundry room can find each other. I understand a lit of folks don't lime or do FB but at least its a way not to lose contact and an acvount can be made using a fake name.

I hope we will always have this place to come to. I don't post a lot but I do check in nearly every day. It's part of my morning. I would also hope we would get a notice so the KT could find a new home.

BTW-I think if Houzz was going to drop KT they would have done so during this change. But one never knows.

If you continue to post to it, it will stay. There has been NO mention about removing or deleting any of the forums........even those very specific ones that get very little traffic. KT is extremely active so no reason at all it should disappear.

The changes only occurred on Friday.....how fast did you expect them to be fixed?And they have been asking for - and receiving - feedback (provided by the bucketful!!), so they are very aware that the changes did not go smoothly and are working to correct some of the major glitches. Unfortunately some of the changes are likely to be permanent so that may be something we all have to learn to live with. But it is nothing that would force me to resort to joining Facebook, private group or not!!

I'm new to KT, but have been on GW for many years. I don't like the changes, and have decided to drop GW/Houzz unless I see changes to make it more like it was. I'll check in from time to time to see what's going on, but for the most part, I'm outta here.

I'm sad to see you go mushcreek. I like the perspective you bring. But I understand. Sadly lots of regulars at several forums are saying the same things and I know a mass exodus to a new site that's being set up is in the works.

Lucille, you didn’t include the rest of what I wrote which I feel is crucial, ie instead of worrying about it, reach out and ask. At least that way you get an answer from someone who knows and speculation is put to rest. It’s a grown up approach and avoids rumors.

Who knows how valid answers are, Emily may not be privy to all of Houzz plans. There is nothing wrong with getting a list together, reaching out to both Houzz and DLM. If it isn't needed, well and good.

I agree with Lucille in that there's always the possibility the forums are dropped without notice. I think Houzz might give us notice but if they were bought out by another entity, the new company may not realize nor care how many people they might upset.

My opinion may be biased because I'm having no problems with the changes. I can read. I can post.

I don't know the cost of hosting the KT. This one and a few other boards seem very active. I don't know how much activity would be required to show support for keeping some boards open. Some pruning (haha) may be necessary. It could be that some quiet boards are more apt to look and the ads or actually *buy* something. This may be akin to receiving a 'validated parking' ticket. We 'park' here, but do we buy anything?

The KT drives plenty of traffic to the site. That adds monetary value to Houzz in several different ways. I would be very surprised if it went anywhere.

What do you want to bet that they don't start the next update on a Friday! LOL! It is much better than it was over the weekend and there is no way I will go to Faceyuck.

I haven't been here very long. I was a lurker mostly in the laundry room for years before joining. Once upon a time the laundry forum was filled to overflowing with kindhearted and funny members. Many of us shared emails, addresses and phone numbers. Many of us developed lasting friendships. The laundry forum was often mentioned in the other forums and it was alway good. But folks started one by one disappearing and today there's only a handful of us around. I really miss those days. I always called the laundry forum a **Family of Friends** I'm very grateful for the few that t have remained but sure do miss all the great folks that have left.

I agree with Audrey. I remembered back then, I couldn't wait to have some free time so, I could get to KT and read the posts.

I too, hope KT will stay. I don't visit as often as I used to but still visit now and then. KT is like a familiar and comfortable place to visit; if one day it'll go away, I would be so lost. If that ever happens, someone please find me and tell me the new gathering place ^_^.

I see the back arrow has returned. That's a good thing.

Thank goodness the page numbers are back and one doesn't just keep going and going and going. And someone figured out how to alphabetize the forum topics. These two things are improvements.

For as long as I can remember people have asked this question. Some screamed and stomped their feet, threatened to leave (to get attention usually) and often came back. I'm disappointed to see the page numbers return. It was far better IMO as it was. And pages don't open in a new tab which was another improvement. I'd prefer to see it as an option at least. I really liked the improvements. But at least it's still working with Opera, so that's a good thing, whatever the cause is.

Cynic, you can make the pages open in a new tab by right-clicking on the post name and choosing "Open page in a new tab". I hope you don't think I'm being a know-it-all; I am certain that you're very computer literate. It's just that I use that technique a lot and find it useful (although I didn't care for the KT/GW pages opening in a new tab by default),

I've been curious as to what or who, Houzz is, so I Googled lol. Turns out Houzz is a Silicon Valley start-up of several years ago. I read their business model, and wondered why they would ever want GardenWeb. I don't know if Houzz feels they can monetize the gardening community via GardenWeb, or if it is a loss leader type of entity to them. I'm no CPA or business whizz, but it looks like they are fairly well capitalized, and certainly well leveraged. They have recently entered the Nashville market, the current 'it' city.

I've read GardenWeb for years, probably from just before Spike left the scene. I discovered KT a few years ago looking through the non-garden related forums. I spend way too much time on line, but I do enjoy these forums. I have never purposely accessed Houzz. As for GardenWeb's viability with Houzz, I suppose time will tell.

I'm content with the change, we are lucky to even have a free forum. I've been here for a long long time and I plan on staying till the end of my life, not the Houzz life. lol

I've been here for years, probably close to the beginning, though not as active in the past few years. I'm not going far. I just don't have the extra time to spend here that I used to. I will continue to organize the Christmas/Holiday card exchange. I have, apparently, missed whatever changes were made recently. I only see a confusing side bar on the left. I haven't looked to see what it really is, though.

As far as being able to make contact with each other if the site is removed unexpectedly, I still have the email & snail mail addresses from some previous exchanges. I always ask for each participant to send me their current information, in case it has changed, and I just copy and paste to the list. That way I don't miss anything by retyping it. And I know the information is current. So there is that way for some of us to contact each other. And I can be found on Facebook. I am not part of the closed Facebook group though. I do know it exists, but don't know how to find it to ask to join it.
