Please help-making formal lr less formal, pics and plans. TIA!
Comments (15)Hmm. If you want a transition, here are two other options that might be worth considering.. . . Option A. Put the flat screen on the wall opposite the fireplace -- over the baskets where the small pic is currently. Use the existing armoire for toy storage. Put two swivel or moveable chairs along the left end of the rug. Put another swivel chair about where the left couch cushion is in your second floorplan. Put the couch or a love seat where you show it in your second floor plan. As long as the tv is mounted medium high, you should have three good viewing chairs. Option two. Mount the tv on the wall where the armoire is currently. Put the couch where the loveseat is in your second floor plan. Put one swivel chair to the left of the fireplace (similar to your current floor plan). Consider building a deep uphoulstered bench to replace the bookcase on the left side of the fireplace. This lets you view the TV from the couch, one chair, and possible the bench. In terms of your laughing friends, tell them not to expect any permanent resolution to your LR decorating woes. Those of us with odd shaped LRs (mine is only a tad bigger than yours) end up shoving furniture around a lot as technology and family needs change. Over the years, my couch has been shoved up against every wall in my LR -- plus it "floated" in the middle of the room for about 8 years. Each arrangement has its pluses and minuses. My current arrangement, for example, sacrifices all attempt at having a graceful transition from my front entry and largely ignores my fireplace. Yet it works for us right now. The important thing is to find something that makes your family happy and comfortable -- at least for now....See MoreNon- traditional traditional dining room paint color help
Comments (15)Thank you all for the thoughts. I really like the idea of the gray, and the blues. Neither of which I had on my radar. It just helps me think outside the box, so when I finally decide on something it will really be what I like since I went through all the options. Gray is especially appealing to me. I do not have it anywhere else. I am wondering if it looks good though because of how it is everywhere right now?...See Morewhat exterior paint colors would make pink brick seem less pink? Help!
Comments (7)As noted earlier, the green just draws more attention. I would: 1) Remove the shutters from the double windows. 2) Paint all the trim and garage doors a nice medium taupe. Don't paint the garage doors a different color as it draws more attention to them. 3) Paint the shutters, maybe a darker tone of the trim. 4) Paint the front door. A black door with taupe trim/shutters would be very striking. If you're interested in seeing some virtual makeovers of your home, check out my website, Creative Visual Concepts. Comments (23)I feel like lighting will make a HUGE difference. Usually when people say "busy" I imagine cluttered, but your decor looks intentional and your house looks lived in but not like a completely kitchy mess. I think it's just the light/contrast letting you down. So don't be so hard on yourself! I'm a photographer and the think that always stands out to me in houses that are really beautiful is how much light gives the spaces texture, definition, and brightness. Because you have darker floors and some darker pieces of furniture in some spaces they all kind of blend together and look really heavy even though they aren't packed too tightly. It's super easy to just plug whatever lamps you have into outlets and flip a light switch that turns on some lights on your ceiling and stop there, but I think the big difference between really put together living spaces and those that don't quite feel as polished is often the intentional use and choices of light. Layering lights at different levels, paying attention to task lighting, and being selective with fixtures can really make a huge difference. I've no where near perfected this in our house yet, but the few changes we've made in some rooms have really had a big impact. I think the right lighting in your home can do wonders and really help establish the ambiance you are going for....See Morersabbagh
