How can I tell if my sofa is a 'good' sofa?
Comments (1)If you are ready to possibly trash it, you can turn it upside down and remove the bottom piece of gause (or whatever they stapled to the bottom to cover the inner workings) and look at the springs or whatever seat support they used and also see the frame. You can make a decision at that point. If its hand tied springs with a quality wood frame, then it might be worth fixing. If its particle board and stretch springs, then no. Sometimes you can make minor repairs to the underside yourself and it will work for years....See MoreHomeStretch Sofas - Good Quality? Anybody have one?
Comments (66)I read the reviews before our purchase that we made in 02/21. In the showroom the sofa was extremely comfortable, sat exactly how I needed it to sit for me. I'm 6'1", 225 lbs, 66 with a history of lower lumbar issues. It was delivered and was wonderful - for about a month. It sank at least two inches. Seriously, so much that when I used the sofa it began to increase my back pain and then began to cause difficulty getting up from the sofa because the sunken portion places me in a position where my pelvis is lower than my knees. I finally made a claim with our furniture company - which has been great to deal with - and they sent someone to look at it 06/21. Yes, there's a definite issue the repair man said, and yes, maybe it's just a bad piece of foam. BTW, both reclining ends did this. So new inserts were ordered and their repair man brought them and put them in on a Tuesday. Before the next Tuesday rolled around, the sinking feeling has returned and is worsening. There's definitely something not right with the quality of the foam used here, or there's something wrong with the platform that supports the foam. Everything else seems to be quality and is to be appreciated, but honestly, what good is reclining 'comfort' furniture if that comfort doesn't last more than a month or even less? With that said, I know there's nothing better out there. Seriously. I think folks just need to understand this isn't going to hold it's comfort the same way it does when you try it out in the showroom....See MoreEthan Allen Couch? Recent experience? Comments (3)I don't have that sofa, but I have one that's similar from Calico Corners that I've been happy with. When I was shopping for furniture, I felt that Calico Corners offered good quality (American made, eight way hand tied, etc.) for the price....See MoreHow much does a good quality sofa cost?
Comments (40)Julie, I had the same NFMart experience you did. I was completely overwhelmed by the store and DH ended up talking me into a soft Broyhill. DH..."Why are we here if were not going to buy anything?" After 4yrs the wood frame squeaks and it's so uncomfortable I'm always changing sitting positions. Have you been to Crowley Furniture in OP? I think they carry mid-line sofas but their service is excellent. The two sales people that helped me were decorators. It was great to bounce ideas off them, as well as get help with the multitude of fabric choices. If you're adventurous you could try T. Ormans. They advertise high end furniture at wholesale prices. Another overwhelming place for me. Tons of furniture spread out over a 70,000 sq ft building. I think you really have to know what you want before you go. They're only open Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays. I do think I'll visit NFM again. Next time I'll go during the week and be armed with a list of brands worthy to look at. I remember the back of the store had an area of higher quality furniture that wasn't prowled by hungry salespeople. Also, every time I try to find a dealer for one of the above mentioned brands it comes back as being carried by NFM. Jennifer...See Moreshari13
