How can I tell if my sofa is a 'good' sofa?

I have no idea about the interior workings of the sofa because it was a mega bargain from a higher end furniture store. I have no idea if it is good quality.

The sofa is 10 years old. The manufacturer is Century. The positives are that the back cushions and seat cushions are in really good condition. The frame is also fine.

The negatives are that it squeaks and sags when you sit on it. Is that something that is "tightened up" during a reupholster or is it some kind of quality issue that indicates I should just start new?

If you are ready to possibly trash it, you can turn it upside down and remove the bottom piece of gause (or whatever they stapled to the bottom to cover the inner workings) and look at the springs or whatever seat support they used and also see the frame.

You can make a decision at that point. If its hand tied springs with a quality wood frame, then it might be worth fixing. If its particle board and stretch springs, then no. Sometimes you can make minor repairs to the underside yourself and it will work for years.

The best way to get furniture quickly is to not wait any longer to order it. I don't have that sofa, but I have one that's similar from Calico Corners that I've been happy with. When I was shopping for furniture, I felt that Calico Corners offered good quality (American made, eight way hand tied, etc.) for the price.

Nice couch! I like your space. If it's any consolation, your couch isn't looking muddy on my screen. :) I agree with katie, I wouldn't risk introducing cool-toned greys. Other colours that might work: peachy-pinks, blush, soft yellows and amber, greens, purple, aqua and teal. Love Lil's idea of trying out colours with clothing first. It's a great way to test out colours in a room. I like the idea of a gallery wall but they can be iffy to pull off and get expensive (depending on frames and prints, etc.). Sometimes, it's just easier to fall in love with a big piece of art and be done with it.

Is there room for your TV beside the door? I am thinking that is your front door...right? I personally do not like catty cornered furniture but.....If your TV will fit there, your sofa could be on the 12 foot wall with enough room for tables and lamps. Your chair could be where the couch is now If you put a small chest and lamp beside the chair, I think you could put your kitchen table behind it. I think you are going to just have to ignore the curved carpet/floor when you put your furniture down. With a recliner couch (I assume that is what you showed) you will not be able to have a coffee table so maybe the one you have could be put in front of the windows. Keep your space as open as you can so that it doesn't look cluttered. You will find a way to ignore the curve.
