1 year later...the Builder threw us under the bus! What to do?
Comments (43)Living in a place where there are lots of restrictions can be a real pain, too. I just moved from one (a condo community). While there was no restriction against putting a washer and dryer in your unit, all were subject to individual review and approval. One long term board member routinely voted against approval, because she had lived there for "20 years and have never had a problem using the laundry room or going to the laundromat" She felt people that had their own washers and dryers were "self entitled and lazy". A neighboring unit owner fought mine because he was positive he would see my dryer vent when he looked out his skylight. When it was pointed out that he would have to have his face pressed against it to see it, he said "well I will see the steam coming out". You may be forced to use materials on your house you don't like. I did a project in a community where one woman complained whenever anyone painted their front door in the correct color, because they didn't match the faded version of the correct color on the other doors. I couldn't wait to finally get out of my HOA even though I have no say as to what my neighbors do, and my next door neighbor does lots of things I don't like, including passing out when he is cooking and nearly burning his kitchen down. And our houses are connected....See MoreSon Threw Rock Part Deux....Home or Auto Ins?
Comments (35)I think you should just try to pay the guy the entire amount if at all possible. He is being very nice by taking the lower bid and he will probably lose the use of his car for a few days while its in the shop being fixed. If he wanted to, he could probably ask you to cover the charge of a rental car for his use during this time. I would consider myself lucky that he isn't doing that and just pay him if you can....See MoreHelp me decide between two IKEA kitchen tables
Comments (1)I think I'd buy the cheaper table. $200 isn't much, and if you don't like it when you get your kitchen finished, you can sell it on Craigslist. I would spend the time browsing Craigslist for a table I love, and refinish that. BTW, you'll get more responses with your post on Home Decorating. Furniture doesn't get a lot of traffic. Comments (18)If your bay window is cantilevered out and not holding up a second floor bay... Would you rather have island seating than a breakfast nook? It would be a much bigger project, of course. It looks like you may have the room for it. I've proposed this for other folks and this image is the first example I found. In your case, the range and the clean up sink would trade places, so you you might see the range flanked by windows from the front door instead of your pretty table and windows. Just thought I'd toss this out there......See Morechispa
