Help for Very Large Foyer Window Treatment
Comments (6)gk5040, I had looked into widow tinting. There are some warnings out there about heat buildup in the glass and possible cracking. I am hesitant with this window because the morning sun is so intense and the window is 18 years old. It is in good shape, as far as I can tell; I'm afraid to risk having to replace the window down the line. How long have you had the tinting and can I ask approximately what it cost to have done? Thanks....See MoreAntique Drapery Rod Co. for window treatments?
Comments (5)Don't have the drapes but I had white wrought iron rods and finials. (White thanks to boopadaboo - brilliant!) The paint rubbed off at the top where the rings slid; perhaps this is inevitable. I really like the rod holders. They were made to hold 2 rods and the design was very nice. The paint job on my first set of rods looked kind of rough. They politely sent a replacement set but it looked the same. I decided it was character, not a character flaw. They had a big fire in their factory sometime in the past 7 years or so. At that time you could buy certain popular items in the line off the rack at Calico Corners. Don't know any more. I was pleased with the look. Somewhere in the inner recesses of my consciousness I appreciated the heaviness and customness of the wrought iron; don't know if anyone else ever sensed a difference between these and the black phony wroought iron ones in the room next door. I don't think you can go wrong with these on sale. When I moved I told the young new owner all about them because I was afraid she'd just toss them, unknowingly, for something more today-looking. AT one time JC Penny had the "C" rings....See MoreDrapery Window Treatment Help
Comments (2)I have always liked the traditional look of having the basic window treatment you see from the outside of your home match for all windows (especially the ones you see from the street) then add what ever fits the room and your privacy needs on the inside....See MoreDraperies for large window
Comments (10)What the heck are board mounted drapes? Anyways, side panels would look great on this window. The thing about stationary drapes is they shouldn't look like stationary drapes. So often you see large windows with skinny side panels and it looks terrible. No matter what the fabric, the rod or even what the rest of the room looks like, it looks cheap. So, don't skimp out on the amount of fabric which is what you mentioned you wanted to save money on. Hang your rod half way between the top of your window and your crown moulding so your panels are a long as possible. This is to accentuate the height of the room (panels that are too short make the room look squat). Minimally, each side panel when fully extended should cover the window so that your fabric amount is double fullness. When choosing the size of rod, allow for the width of your side panels so they aren't covering a lot of your window. The goal is to make the window look bigger than it actually is. Here's a trick for stationary panels. Often it's hard to keep panels in place on the rod and they start to creep closed. This can make one side of drapery more open than the other and the whole look is lobsided. Here's the tip, put an elastic band on the rod beside each panel and arrange your panel so you can't see it. Your panel will stay in place....See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
