Antique Drapery Rod Co. for window treatments?

A store in my area called Hirshfield's carries Antique Drapery Rod Co. I noticed it was on clearance last time I stopped. The lady mentioned they will no longer be selling it. It is very beautiful wood rods, finials, brackets, etc. Tons of finish choices. Styles range from simple and unadorned to ornate/gilded/quite detailed. Not available for retail purchase but must be ordered through a designer, store, etc.

I checked out their site and am particularly interested because I have a huge 12'6" wide by 7' tall window in my Dining Room that is comprised of 5 casements mulled together with an arched transom. The window is also set into an arched niche so I'm not sure how I could do a window treatment, unless I did one on the outside of the niche. This company offers some very attractive finishes with a C-ring option for long banks of windows or floor to ceiling windows.

Just seeking reviews and feedback on this brand. Thanks in advance.

Don't have the drapes but I had white wrought iron rods and finials. (White thanks to boopadaboo - brilliant!) The paint rubbed off at the top where the rings slid; perhaps this is inevitable. I really like the rod holders. They were made to hold 2 rods and the design was very nice. The paint job on my first set of rods looked kind of rough. They politely sent a replacement set but it looked the same. I decided it was character, not a character flaw.

They had a big fire in their factory sometime in the past 7 years or so. At that time you could buy certain popular items in the line off the rack at Calico Corners. Don't know any more.

I was pleased with the look. Somewhere in the inner recesses of my consciousness I appreciated the heaviness and customness of the wrought iron; don't know if anyone else ever sensed a difference between these and the black phony wroought iron ones in the room next door.

I don't think you can go wrong with these on sale. When I moved I told the young new owner all about them because I was afraid she'd just toss them, unknowingly, for something more today-looking.

jamies- thank you for the feedback! I am not familiar with the store Calico Corners, but it's been mentioned many many times on here.

I am sure a specialist would have suggestions for my large window. But like I said, I saw the in-stock items at Hirshfield's and thought they looked like a quality brand. I would need to order custom anyways- they only had a few packs of rings and some random finials. It looked very picked over.

Now I'm worried if I do that window, I'll basically have to cover the whole wall and it will start looking very theatrical. People will walk in and wonder when it's curtain time, LOL. I may have to start a new thread pertaining to this.

I wouldn't do two short rods. I think those always look a little odd, but that's just my thoughts. If it were my room, I'd find a rod with a very small bracket. I'd install the bracket so when hung, the top edge of the drapes was even with the bottom of the crown. You will need to put your bracket on the crown unfortunately. I'd do 1 rod that extended 18-24 inches beyond the window so only the side window trim is covered by the drape. Unfortunately, your crown is getting in the way of hanging a rod! But, if you get the right bracket/rod I think it will work out nice. My only other suggestion is to do a roman or balloon shade in a fabric pattern and let the crown be the picture frame around your window. It is very lovely on it own.

Tibbrix, I love the idea of painting the ceiling in the DR. A new chandy is probably 6 months out unfortunately. I have to do my re-designs in small doses so either hubby doesn't notice or not overwhelmed with my expenses! As far as the rod height, I see what you are saying but my ceiling are only 8 ft and I think going lower makes them seem lower. In my eat in kitchen I originally had panels hung right at the window trim and then raised it to the crown, looks so much better. Jeannie, yes I was planning on getting thicker rods, probably wood rods. I threw these panels up when we bought the house as they were fairly inexpensive and I could not spend a lot on window treatments at the time. We were in the midst of a nearly full house remodel and finishing touches was just not in the budget. Now I am focusing on the small things. I think my plan is to do the plantation shutter and then either the RH panels or something similar. I like the idea of going lighter. Everyone is so helpful, I really appreciate the ideas/insight!

it will look perfectly fine on the corner windows... for the single side window, it would look better with 2 unless you really have the curtain right up against the wall in the corner. in our basement, we have a french door (double where only one side opens) leading outside and it looked so plain with no window treatment on it. but, there is a 'soffit' like piece that makes the door sortof recessed so that i couldn't hang a rod above the door. i ended up hanging a short rod only on the left(nonopening)side 'door' and used a finial only on one end and had the rod go right up to the wall on the other---the panel goes right up to the wall and i think it looks fine! (if you can understand that!)

1) You can purchase "add-a-rod" brackets that clamp onto any metal rod brackets, behind the primary rod, so you can use any rod your little heart desires. :-) Country Curtains carries them for a very reasonable price, as do Linens & Things and, IIRC, Bed Bath & Beyond. 2) The "Bold Pole" curtain metal rods are 1 1/4" thick and are available in a pewter finish. There is a matching add-a-rod bracket. Country Curtains has them, as do some Linens & Things stores but their stocks are unpredictable. 3) Bed Bath & Beyond's ReSolutions line has 1" primary rods with a 5/8" add-a-rod and comes in pewter. Several finial options. I've never seen these at the store, but YMMV. 4) Pricey, but Restoration Hardware has conversion kits to make a double rod with a 1 1/4" front rod. Their "antique silver" is probably an acceptable pewter equivalent. Hope this helps some.

Wondering if you ever bought the drapery rod? I have a 12' window and am having trouble finding anything in stock that isn't cheap plastic or is long enough. Found a place called the iron design group, but scared to order online without seeing quality color etc. anyone use that company? Thanks

Annemarie, have you thought of using closet dowling(HD/Lowe's)? I don't know what the longest length is(12'??), but circumference sizes are anywhere from 1" to almost 3" and it can be painted, stained, or left as is.

If you need finials/brackets usually the standard ones work, or come up with your own design. You can find many different things to use at a craft store such as Hobby Lobby. ;o)

I have not used iron design group but I did order hardware for two 12' windows from Paso Robles Ironworks. I was very happy with the service, quality and color of my curtain rods. I called with questions and they were very helpful. I have an older home and they really look like they belong in the house.
