I don't think there is ANY harm in posting in both places..if someone doesn't want to read..no one is making them. As far as I know, you can't remove posts once they are made...I see NO problem as far as I am concerned with posts in both places. I think personally it was rude to complain of such when tons of these forums will show multiple posts. This is a slow moving forum on top of it. I guess there are cranky people on the net just as in real life. I am sorry for that. As far as the foam...buy the thickest you can. I love mine. I have the dense 2 inch pad on top of a brand new mattress. I paid about 150 dollars for it. Keep in mind, don't buy cheap...you get what you pay for..I would not be without..it is like sleeping in a cloud. I never want to get out of the darn thing and I rarely wake with a backache anymore. I have less than desirable sleeping habits that often caused back troubles. They are rare now...I believe it is the pad that is the answer in combination with a memory pillow for necks. My two children just graduated from College in recent years and I wish those pads would of exsisted for them but they did not then...or at least not in my area. I would definately buy one for a college student. Those beds are nasty...and who knows what slept on them or how clean they were kept...dust mites I am sure abound in them. Don't hesitate...but check your size..you may or may not need extra long. Congradulations on sending your child off to college..it is a exciting and fun road to watch your children travel.

Oceanna I saw a neurosurgeon at the insistence of my general doctor - she didn't want me going to an orthopedist. Terriks that's just what I had - so sorry you didn't have the same quality of results. Mine came on very fast - I didn't live with bouts of pain or immobility for years the way many people do. I had sudden onset in May that dramatically limited my mobility. I started with chiropractic and accupuncture immediately and did get relief and improvement that continued for close to a month but I never got to 100% better. Then one month after my first 'attack' I was walking to the gym and literally dropped to my knees on the sidewalk - horrendous pain, left leg couldn't support my weight at all. My DH happened to be driving by and he picked me up - literally. That was a Monday. My doctor put me on prednisone and a muscle relaxer but by Thurs I was no better, in so much pain I had to be carried to the toilet from bed and I'd been that way for 4 days. My DH took me to my doctor and she wanted to admit me immediately but I wouldn't go becaue I was determined to beat it without surgery and knew if I was hospitalized it would mean surgery. Less than 24 hours later I gave in and was admitted Friday afternoon, had an MRI and met with the neuro on Sat. He scheduled surgery for Monday and the rest is history. I still feel at times like there is a string or piece of hair caught around my middle toes - nerve damage that may never totally go away. And that's after a very short period of damage. From what I understand, the longer between onset and surgery, the more nerve damage and the less likely complete relief will happen. I got lucky. My DH is an engineer and he understood the problem from a mechanical standpoint and really pushed me to get the surgery - I would have waited if not for him.

Thank you all -- Geez, there is a world of info out there now...I had checked *some* threads here, but they were so-so...don't think I saw terri's thread. That link was great, walkin. Oddly enough, we decided to get a 1" Venus pad at overstock--I think they're there because Foamex went out of business--amazing discount. If we need any more thickness (I know 1" is very odd, but it's 8 lb. foam), we'll get another less dense pad for on top of it. Should be very interesting to see how it's different from what we have now. I'll keep the idea of the thick quilted mattress pad, tracey -- that might be a great way to address the heat issue. I also read on one of the gweb threads that if you put shelf liner under the pad, it will keep it from shifting around on the bed. Great! I have too much Ikea shelf liner I bought in the as-is section a few years ago -- so I know what I'll do with it now :)

Wow that's awesome sewlutions! I wish we had a sofa sleep to get one of these for. I also like the idea of the air bed that turns any sofa into a sleeper. We already have an air mattress camping bed that is very comfortable, but their system would save space in the room since our three guests rooms are being used by our son and grandson. Two as bedrooms and the third as their living room. The later serves as our guest room, but already has a sofa. Thanks so much for sharing that link.
