Help! See a huge crack in a roof beam and possible water damage
Comments (19)I am in SF Bay Area, so no snow, in fact hardly any rains for past couple years. But we did get a new roof ~3 years back. That wall is an exterior wall towards the side yard. No windows on that wall. This beam is original to our 70-yo house. I must say, during the past 11 years that I lived in this house, I never saw this before, this is only in the past 2 years or so. We have these types of joists(?) throughout and none other shows this type of cracking. After the new flat roof was put up, we also noticed a leak in the same general roof area right after the first rain. The roofer fixed it but I am not sure if some water that seeped underneath is now causing the damage or whether he did a good enough job fixing it. Anyway, seems like I should contact him. I am pretty sure he will finger point to something else, but at least I will get started....See MoreIs it possible to replace stone countertops without damaging cabinets?
Comments (4)Yes. It's even possible to remove the stone without breakage. Your best bet is to drive gradually larger scrapers/shims between the bottom of the top and the cabinet stiles then sever any adhesive with a Japanese pull saw. Although you didn't ask for any appliance advice, I'd get a stove that showed off my backsplash and didn't cover it up....See MoreThrips? Cold damage? Nutrient deficiency? Help with snake plants!
Comments (15)Agreed with above comments. Once damaged the Snake plant doesn't show it soon, leaving many to believe it is okay. Then a month later, you see what yours looks like. Damage will never repair itself but will out grow it with new leaves and pups (new young plants). There are many factors that can cause a plant's demise. Mostly keep warm, out of drafts and all the bright light they can get. With warm weather (80's to 90's) they require all the water possible. I have seen some sitting in water all the time! Most people don't keep their house that warm and hope you can take them outside for summer vacation. A large well grown Snake Plant can take a lot of abuse being in darkness and little water and even temps in the 50's, but if something does go wrong then it will advance rapidly....See MorePossible to remove terrazzo without damaging kitchen cabinets?
Comments (20)YELLOW. But that's me and nobody else. :) Yellow like the stripe but less intense. Black would be too dark unless you replaced the sparkle-pony countertop. (I can spend all your money from all the way over here!) Painting cabinets well is not going to be at all cheap, either. I really don't know what I'd do in your situation. I'd probably just ride with it while plotting the future remodel. See how the layout performs. If nothing else, it's a conversation starter. And I would be very tempted to incorporate that floor into the new kitchen, but it depends on how much is still there. How hard can it be to put in cabinets--the lines are already there! :P...See Morebuttoni_8b
