You have some nice furniture and I really like the color of your walls. You are mostly there! :-) I agree with others that if the chair seats were covered in a print or textured colored fabric it would add more interest. Since your room is traditional I think 2 candlesticks of silver or brass would look good. Use candles that repeat an accent color in the room or the green from the other room. Between the candles you could use fresh flowers when entertaining or faux if you want something on the table at all times. Make this a relatively low arrangement and place in a nice cachepot. A live plant would be an option as well altho not sure how much light that area gets. The 3 hurricanes are too many and too modern for the room IMO. One alone in the center of the table could work with a colored candle and filler but it's still a more contemporary feel which of course is a personal choice. Go to your local lighting showroom. The staff at most stores are trained to answer these questions. Take your plans and listen to their advice. They can explain lumens vs Watts, flood vs accent, and how best to light your space.

Please clarify this statement... "I like more war, colors like the beige or light tan to coordinate with each other." Also it is hard to recommend colors without some idea of the space and how the rooms relate to each other. Do you have a floor plan, sketch or pictures that you can post to help us give you ideas? Whole house open concept or 3 separate rooms with doors or clearly defined separations for different colors of paint. Also what color & type of flooring, furniture, cabinets, rugs, art etc... Without any of the above I can say I like the following colors & you might start your paint journey with:

Hi all, it has been a while but thought I'd update you on my progress. I've taken a lot of the comments on board (other than switching the painting as we love this painting), and I'm getting there. But I'm still struggling to pull everything together. I do still need to change the curtains to floor length ones, but I have no idea what colour/pattern to go for, so any suggestions would be very much appreciated! I've tidied up the bookshelves, built up the mantel, and we've finally installed our wooden flooring, I swapped the corner chair for a rocking chair and think everything feels a lot neater now and less chaotic. As you can see, I ditched the red couch cover - the red and blue was too jarring for me. But now I think the green couch along with the blue chair is too much? If so, what should I do? Both are IKEA and can have their covers replaced, I just don't know what colours to go for...maybe a light blue for the couch? I also think I should change the grey walls to a cream? It's an East facing room so I'm limited on what wall colours I can use but I feel the grey is too cold and flat in the evening. I'm thinking it's my colour scheme that's stopping everything from feeling coherent, but it could be other things I'm not picking up on? Please ignore that half the tiles are missing from the fireplace, haven't got round to fixing them yet, also the plant has seen better days and I'm slowly nursing it back to health after it was attacked repeatedly by our kitten.
