My family room needs your help
Comments (3)Hi Rina -- What a wonderful room. Perhaps a more modern squared sectional or a sofa with a lounge end and then add another chair . Or have matching sofas back to back with a narrow console table between for lamps etc then add another chair and an upholstered ottoman for the backed sofa . That should fill the void in the center . Everything looks real nice right now ....See MoreNeed living room design/color ideas
Comments (15)Wall and sectional colors are both neutral so you can do anything with the rug, picking up the colors from it in the pillows. Do you like geometric, tribal, contemporary or any special style for the rug? A busy pattern or something more soothing? You really can't get a rug until the sectional is in place so you can measure for the right size within the constraints of both the room and the sectional. I prefer rugs slip under the front 1/3 to 1/2 of the seats and extend past the ends by at least a foot or more. You can tape that out on the floor with painter's tape once the sofa is in the room. If the measurement isn't a standard rug size, then go up to the next size if you can. Seeing the vertical blinds hints that you may be in an apartment. If you're planning to change those, let us see more of the window/slider?? configuration....See MoreArmoire Color and Living Room Layout
Comments (40)I think the wood tone is a nice option to add some warmth and depth. it's a nice room and pretty cabinet. I restore and paint all types of wood furniture, but I don't think I'd paint this. If you feel you MUST, look into a real milk paint (The Real Milk Paint Co.) since that type of milk paint would look amazing w/the graining on the oak cabinet. that company also sells a dark tung oil. (do not get the Tung Oil finish at the big stores. that has very little natural tung oil. that stuff is more of a varnish.) The natural tung oil may darken the wood up a bit. I've used both the dark and the light on my projects. I'd prob do a ceruse technique on it, but this is very tedious work. looks great tho. look into some natural wood products from Bona or some other yellow creamy oil whose name has escaped me! they use it on wood tables. they do make a white water based stain. it's not as heavy as a white paint white-wash Analine Dye is another option. comes in a powder that you mix w/hot water to dissolve. then you can paint it on. it penetrates the wood, dries quickly and comes in every color, even regular brown stain colors. I've used the ebony one on my oak door. I wanted it very black, but still wanted the grain to show. the dye gives a nice black base, which I then went over w/a black gel stain. Penofin oil in ebony finished it up. hard to tell in the pic, but the grain is still visible....See MoreColor scheme to tie these rooms together?
Comments (16)There is absolutely nothing wrong with these two rooms living next to each other and not color coordinating. Your living room is stunning neutrals. You've nailed it. Don't mess up a good thing. Your kitchen is vibrant but classy. Again, another acheivement. Just let these space be. If anything, focus on bringing in living room elements to your kitchen - use wood - walnut - countertop accessories. Even better if they have an MCM vibe. Ditch all the stailness stuff. Corral all the countertop appliances, Store ones you don't use every day. Have the other ones live together. What does the rest of your kitchen look like?...See Moreindomom
