Neighbors illegally subletting: should I rat them out?
Comments (3)Does your mgmt enforce the smoking rules w/current tenants? Are they proactive about noise complaints? If so, I'd write an anonymous letter to mgmt. and mail it from your local post office, sign as A Concerned Tenant. Wait a week or so then start complaining about the smoking & noise to mgmt w/o mentioning they're the subletters. Just call them the new neighbors in 4B or something. Be polite, firm & keep notes as you've been doing. If it's a nice complex & you're paying a decent rent it's your right to complain. That said, I'm sure you know some folks just suck as apt. neighbors.... Mgmt. may guess it's you who complained, but if they're going to be bad neighbors, hopefully others will complain too & force mgmt to boot them. Imagine the people living below them if they're too noisy. Good luck....See MoreNeighbor's smell entering our apartment!!!
Comments (25)I just went through something like this at my place. I got these new neighbours on both sides of me a couple of years ago, and I swear the food they cook smells like dead bodies. No joke. At first I thought they were cooking drugs. For the last year it has been really bad during the pandemic. About a dozen times there was a smell coming into my apartment, and one day I just had enough. I called the super and complained. It was ok for awhile and then it started again. Its obvious they dont care about what the supers say so I let it go for a few more times, and then I called the head office. I spoke with the main secretary of the head office and told him what is going on. Then he told me to send him an email, and the owner responded. Since I have complaint its not that bad. Like, I understand its hard to complain about this issue because it is a sensitive one. However, if you work hard to pay the rent and you follow all the rules, why should you have to put up with a smell that is going to ruin the contents in your apartment to a point where you will have to throw out your furniture when you move out? Its not right. If you feel annoyed, say something and stick up for yourself. Who cares what they think! If they had respect for your in the first place and/or the property, they would of boiled water and vinegar on the stove while they were cooking it....See MoreNeighbors complaining how I raise my kids
Comments (21)Thanks Larke. When "the Village" steps up and pays for food for my kids or clothes or college, I'll be more than glad to listen to their unsolicited advice on how I should parent my kids. Until that time though, I really don't need someone I don't even know and have never spoken to in my life, asking me "what kind of person leaves their kids alone" when A) she doesn't even know my kids' names or ages or B) if in fact they're even in there. (in fact I had gotten out of the car with one of my kids at my side!!) It's one thing if someone hears crying or yelling or some sign of distress and steps in. Questioning a total stranger over his parenting skills when there is zero reason for concern seems extreme and useless to me. I'm sure I'd win many friends if I (for example), out of the blue, spoke up to mothers in the grocery store and asked why they were buying this or that child's food or toy or whatever. "You're buying your kids that unhealthy, fattening chocolate chip ice cream? What kind of mother are you anyway?" Try it next time you're in the grocery store Larke and see how it goes over and please let us know. Try it with a few mothers, please. I'm sure all the mothers will thank you and say to you "oh thank you lady for watching how I feed my kids". What a wonderful and happy Village, indeed....See MoreMy downstair neighbor complains about walking.
Comments (9)bossyvossy is on to something. Maybe it is time to change out the carpet & padding. I would take that suggestion. Honestly, when I've lived in apartments, people walking around didn't bother me. It was actually a bit comforting when I was a new momma & my husband was out of town or at work nights. It was nice to know someone was upstairs. I have a two story house now, and sometimes I hear the kids upstairs walking around. Of course that doesn't bother me. The ONLY thing that bothered me with someone living above me in an apt. was a guy that used to play his guitar really loud. Just any loud music. Not even the tv bothered me if I ever heard it. Just the boom, boom, boom of music. Luckily this younger generation would rather listen to music, watch tv/laptops/tablets/phones with earphones. Maybe your neighbors just need to rent/buy a house or something if they can't get used to hearing someone walking above them. You never know what bothers people. You could cook hamburgers and they might complain about the smell.....hang in there :)...See MoreLoveMy Dogs
