24' wide and 8' tall closet doors flank front door, 6 or 3 panel?
Comments (2)Why not a big pane of glass for the anteroom door with top and bottom rails and the stiles the same as the paneled doors. Three panel on the closet doors instead of six because of the narrow width. Proportion trumps number. The windows on the top stories of many period houses with 6-6 sashon the lower floors, are 3-3 with a proportion similar to the lites below. Some have been replaced with 6-6, resulting in a cluttered window with horizontal looking lites. Proportion is more important, and the width of those panels if you did 6 on such a narrow tall door would be sliver-like....See MoreFront door less than 8ft tall ok if flanking closets are 8ft?
Comments (26)I would say that the transom could be the same material with the same pattern, it could be the same shape with a single lite (which would be transitional really but that's ok) or it could be rectangular with upright rectangular divided lites. The mirror idea, to me anyway, is only effective if you are doing it where you actually Couldn't or Wouldn't Want to have real windows. I think the important thing to maintain with the number of openings that are adjacent here (5?), and the number of doors to be used here (5-6?) is some sort of consistency or logic behind the choices. I think if you don't have a leaded surround right at the front, you probably should not do it on the inner doors because it adds another material. Likewise the solid doors should have some kind of pattern relationship with the other solid doors, and the doors with glazing should have some kind of pattern relationship with the other glazed doors...and ideally they should have a relationship with each other as well....See MoreNew curtains to flank the front door.
Comments (23)Linda, I also prefer the portable sewing machines. I have a Husqvarna machine, made in Sweden, which I've had for over 15 years, and I also have an overlock machine, which is even older. I bought the Husqvarna because it had the most stitches suitable for knits and the fewest stitches that I would never use. I don't know what machines are like today, but I didn't like the computerized machine that I used to have. Once the program stopped working, it would have cost more to fix the machine that it was worth, and that's when I replaced it. The manual portable machines have fewer problems and are easier to fix when they do. I also like Mitch's idea of inserting a glass container for flowers, but I doubt I will ever use it for flowers. Because the opening is very small (considering the overall width), I would not be able to get a very large container inside. I could make an acrylic liner, however, as I have worked with acrylic before and have the tools for making the seams. Lars...See Morewhite bungalow w red roof, red garage door, red front door, red brick
Comments (0)We need to remove brick under bay window because it’s falling off, but the rest is ok. We’d like to replace it with something else and paint the red brick to match whatever material we use, possibly charcoal to bring out the dark in roof. Thinking either vinyl stacked stone siding, vertical siding or vinyl shake siding. Also should we do the whole window wall or just under window. I’d love to keep garage door & front door red but give it a fresh coat....See MoreSina Sadeddin Architectural Design
