Comments (9)That's a great space and there's so much you can do! (Depending on budget of course.) If it feels cold, how about picking out some nice warm colors for the walls? I'd consider 2 colors and paint each color on facing walls (e.g., color 1 on north and south; color 2 on east and west walls.) Bigger pictures on walls. If art is cost prohibitive, maybe your kids can create something? Or have a friend take a pic of you with the kids and have it blown up large and framed. You can do cool effects now with software -- make it look like an oil painting, or sepia toned, or an Andy Warhol look, depending on what you like. It's YOUR space so celebrate you and get colors you love. Maybe jazz it up with some new fun drapes (Crate and Barrel now sells Marimeko by the yard. And IKEA has some fun things too.) It looks like you have an extra curtain rod up? You can remove it or put up a scarf or valance. The wall across from the window looks kind of bare, so I'd consider putting a dresser there. And if it feels cold, I'd swap out the rocker for a nice cozy arm chair with an ottoman, so you can curl up and read. (I have a lovely wooden rocker in my MB too and have yet to sit in it.) If you don't use the ceiling fan, a lovely light fixture could add a nice warm glow. A good way to start is by leafing through magazines and catalogs or browsing online, and starting a folder of looks you love for ideas. Check Craig's List, eBay, and Costco if you're a member for furniture deals. (We got a lovely BR set from Costco: king storage bed with headboard, chest, dresser, 2 night stands and a huge framed mirror) for a great price and the quality is terrific....See MoreHelp, I am stuck, and I don't know what to do
Comments (38)nwdrip- Thanks for chiming in! I am thankful for any advice and I appreciate you commenting on my thread. I think painting the back of the cabs dark brown would be really cool with some colorful dishes. Suero- I never would have picked a rug like that, but you are right, it works. My only thing is that I am, in general, trying to avoid red. I had red accents all over my last apartment, and I want to go for a different feel. However, I get to see what a teal looks like, and how patterns interact with my curtains, so thank you!!! I have continued to look at other rugs. Hubby has been almost no help. He is very picky on what he wants, but he won't help me look. I have browsed through approximately 4000 rugs by now, and every suggestion I have had, he has shot down. :( Here are some of my favorites right now. Please tell me what you guys think: A B C D E F G Hubby wants a border around the edge, doesn't want flowers, only wants a hint of color, doesn't want stripes, doesn't want beige. Please note that most of *my* faves at least have one of those things. This one that I posted earlier appears to still be hubby's favorite: But he's not sold on it....See MoreHELP! ...Paint colors & Ideas for Tray Vault Ceiling
Comments (5)1. I belong to the school of thought that says crown molding should be a consistent colour throughout your home. Unless you have a lodge or cabin-type home, painted white, ecru, etc. is usually best. 2. Varying colours of white or varying strengths of paint on a vault or on the tiers of a tray ceiling give it an interesting depth. I personally don't care for tray ceilings that have some of the tiered surfaces or the sides of the tray painted with the wall colour or a contrasting strong colour. Just my opinion. 3. If you're considering painting the walls a darker colour at bottom that fades out towards the top, I can only assume you don't have a very formal dining room, although the dimensions you give would belie that. Your room size is nice and large, and a chair rail would not box anything in---it is really what one expects to see in a large dining room. It also allows you to "logically" paint one colour below the rail and another above. Good luck with your room!...See MoreI am stuck-trying to figure out a tricky small morning room
Comments (30)Well I found this "down and out" mount and think it may solve my woes. I will have to deal with or patch the hole in the wall behind the tv-but I may leave a smaller opening for components and such. The house was built in 2000 and I just think that was before people started getting super large tv's, so I won't feel too bad about filling it up (having a carpenter re wall it and patch and paint, I can't see such a small space holding a tv again. Anyway here it is, it just swings up and down and out (it will clear fireplace mantles), you can also get it with a pivot head to angle it for viewing preference. It has great reviews, so I am kind of hopeful it can solve the tv issue. Oh and I would probably paint the wall bracket to match the wall so it blended in better....See Morehollybar
