Design Dilemma Paint

Help with baseboard, trim and doors

I just removed all my doors, baseboards and trim so I have a clean slate to work with. I have light beige travertine floors, warm maple kitchen cabinets and old Chicago brick backsplash and family room wall. I need help deciding what color baseboards/trim to use around the house. I like the look of stained wood doors throughout the house, but would like to keep the baseboards and crown moulding white. What color should I do the trim around the doors? Should it be stained to match the door or should it be white like the baseboards? Also, the trim around the window and the window mantle..Should they be white or stained wood?

I think white trim (including around doors and windows) with wood doors would work well. It's quite common these days and it's a nice blend of styles.

Thank you...Now, should the doors match my front door color or my kitchen cabinet color? the front door is like the picture you posted, but my kitchen cabinets are a bit lighter (more maple colored).

1. I've included a link so you have a visual of dark baseboards and painted window trim. I see no reason you can't paint only the window trim. If you decided to paint the baseboards then I'd go ahead and paint the door trim also. My house is all white trim & baseboards with stained pine doors so I know how great the look is! :~). 2. Your doors and trim may only need a good cleaning, a touch up with stain and then sealed. Replacing will be much more expensive and labor intensive than just painting. If you decide to paint them, talk to someone at a paint store (not a big box) and ask about the products they now have that you can use instead of sanding. If the surface has really shiny finish then you'll probably need to do some light sanding. Here is a link that might be useful: white trim, dark baseboards

I think those would work well, but the tops will get dusty. Just fair warning. LOL. Hope you have a long reaching hose on your vacuum with a brush end. I do and it helps. Will you be mitering the corners on the trim work or doing butt or combination (rosettes) butt joints?

Modern asks for semi-gloss instead or even gloss but it depends on your overall color scheme. If it is light, mostly white, I would definitely go with at least semi-gloss.

Virgil and Joy, thank you so much for your input, for the informative link, and most of all for reassuring me that white baseboard and casings can be used. From Joy’s link, this home with the floating stairs (we will have 4” white oak threads with black stringer) resembles the modern home we are building. If 6” baseboards are used, then door casing should be 3” or is there another dimension recommended for a modern look? Not certain what is used in this photo.

It doesn't have to match either. I prefer the darker stain color to the lighter maple one though, which can read orange or yellow
