I think I would paint the screen door to match the front door.

I'd paint the step portion of the threshold black and the apron (vertical part) the trim color.

I think the black screen door is fine as you have black shutters and exterior light in black. Love the door color.

I agree with Pal's suggestion. I would definitely paint the storm door to match the entry door. I've seen a lot of painted storm doors that have held up very well. And since your entrance is covered, your door has more protection from the elements. I think the blue looks great with your house.

You need a railing as well. That’s a big safety issue.

Thank you, Flo!! I like your suggestion and may consider that for the winter / holiday months. For now, I’m really loving the pop of color and I’m a rustic, casual kind ofgirl so this style works well for me. The photo maybe deceiving, my house is a quaint little Cape Cod, so I didn’t want anything too formal. Also, we live on a main road in town, so I think the unexpected pop of color will give the passerby’s a little eye candy ;)

Sophie, yes to the railing!! I know, it’s a must. That is going in when we do some new light posts in the front. I’m thinking of trex material for the rail, to match and extend from the post.

While I do like the idea of the painted storm, I’m not sure it will in fact hold up to the elements here. Elements include three children, a dog, and Boston, Massachusetts winters.

I love the new color. I have family on the Cape and an aqua door is very traditional. It looks great with the black.

Exactly, Mayflowers. This blue definitely lends that summery, beachy vibe which is seen prominently on the Cape.

rebecca, I live in Maine and I painted my front door storm door (wooden) many years ago, and it has held up beautifully. It's not covered by a roof like yours, so I think you'd be OK. The style shows better in the second pic, but that is the recessed door between the house and garage in the entry porch that you can't see in the first pic. Love the new color on yours!

My3dogs, I can’t decide which I love more, your postcard New England cape nestled in the snow, or those two beauties looking out longingly at the yard ;) Now I need to go back and search up your threads to see pics of your interior!!

My storm is metal and in rough shape. But maybe painting it would clean it up a bit. Do I paint both sides or should I leave the interior-facing side black?

And I think everyone’s consensus was that the threshold gets painted black, correct?
