We are pricing a paint grade maple and poplar. The actual cabinet bases are painted (RED) ugh it is hidious. The previous owners painted the bases red and left the old high gloss varnish slab front drawers and doors a medium birch. UGH it looks so nasty. So we will be painting over the red, on the lowers to match the Cafe Ole' cabinet doors and drawer fronts and the upper wall bases the latte to match those cabinet doors. The brick wall in the kitchen where the double ovens are is just an old red brick, no undertones with a taupe grout. The backsplash, floors and countertops we are leaving as is for now, we plan to upgrade those later, however, the color tones are nice and will coordinate well with the cabinet colors I am wanting, and anything I would want down the road. The color scheme suits me and when we get ready to upgrade the countertops and floors I intend to keep to the same scheme. As for the work, we are "hopefully, budget-wise" going to paint the bases ourselves and have the cabinet company do the final finishes in laquer on the doors and drawer fronts. -chmpgntst- thanks for the pics, that is just what I was looking to see.

Agree with Judy that the mirror should be the same color as vanity and side med cab should be the same color as the walls. Just be sure to get a satin or semigloss in the same color as the walls to paint the cabinet. Be sure to do proper prep to take the gloss off of all items before painting, use a primer, too. Top coat will stick better, be less likely to chip.

I'm glad you like it! This particular color is Benjamin Moore Natural Cream OC-14, found the photo on a blog I sometimes read. As for the trim, I like it this way, I suspect it will look good with the new cabinets too, but there might be a better option here that I fail to see at the moment, I admit. I support the plan for painting the black cabinet and I absolutely love the green/blue island idea! I am now even more sure it will look amazing and can't wait to see it!

Pick a color that goes with the floors and the counters etc, that you have already. The walls, are easy to repaint. Dont try to work around a wall color.
