Could you post a picture or two? That would help the helpers!

Are you replacing the cabinets or just painting them? Do you have a multitude of choices, or are the cabinets stock that come in only a few colors? Do you have any photos of the room? What style or feel would you like to achieve in the kitchen?

Without seeing your room, I'd say the safe bet is white--the same color as your trim. You could also do the lower cabinets in navy and the uppers in white. Or bring in a compatible blue for the cabinets. But all these suggestions are a shot in the dark.

A picture of the space would be helpful (to give an idea of how much of the kitchen is painted and how much might get a backsplash).

You could try a nice wood tone, or light green (like suggested above), or a cream/ivory, or really just lean into the blue and go blue on blue =)

I would not have painted entire rooms such a dark color without a full, complete plan. But I also would not paint a kitchen navy blue.

Stainless cabinets could be combined with white if it's not too modern for your taste (I know that antiqued wainscoting does not read modern...pictures...). I would want either the cabinets or the back splash to be highly reflective with dark walls.

I think Walnut has a special place next to Navy. Do you have any photos of the rest of your space? What are the floors? Lighting? Is this room in the North or bight south area of the house? Windows? Do you like contemporary? Traditional? Coastal?

What about a light wood such as birch?

I am really liking the idea of the light wood!!! I will get a picture of the space tonight and post!

Be careful with light wood as it turns yellow with time. Very pretty for the first 4-5 years!

Depends on the wood. There are also wood-look laminates that look pretty spiff and will keep their color tone. Dig around. This is a bamboo look:
