Comments (5)Thanks all.. I done ordered my "Moats"... and you know ctnchpr, I was thinking about "off" also thought about WD40... works on lots of things LOL sure makes my steps go up in the motor home..so it definitely give them ants a few slips...LOL.... Ok, now you all just fill them with water...not petroleum jelly..so that would mean as my housekeeper comes over to do the feeders she can refill too...Oh I know she'll love this ...Why not...what's one more thing..hahahaha..but she's gonna enjoy how they get to know you... they sure do watch when you're near the feeder...buzzed by me a few times ...and one was even floating by me today as I wiped away those buggers...(ants) I looked an low and behold..looked like he was in suspended animation..hahaha then I heard the buzzzzzzz and away he went.. Can ya tell I'm definitely loving this ...I know I'll shed a tear as I pull out my drive way..worrying that they will be ok...Lordy ... God Bless BarbZeee...See MoreI'm SO Weak...and need advice!
Comments (7)Thanks, guys - that helps lots. Although you're all in Zone 4 which makes a huge difference. I don't know if you get the stupid heat waves like we do in Chicagoland. But I'll be planting this weekend and really appreciate your answers. Re Sunrise Nursery, Gayle - it's in Grant Park, Illinois and it's the hugest nursery I've ever seen. GW's 'hostared' (Gloria Lang) who lives a mile from Indiana told me about it and I went two years ago and last year went three time and this year I'm going at LEAST three times. But I asked Gloria to answer with directions and I'm sure she will....I forgot which post it was so I'll go back and tell her... Westy PS (I'm in Crystal Lake, IL which is a 1 1/2 hour drive to her house and then we go a little farther south to the nursery - and it's worth the half tank of gas!)...See MoreOh no in a weak moment I ordered another Rose
Comments (18)Kristine, it is wet out, yes. I did go ahead with in ground planting day before yesterday of Bubble Bath and Cramoisi Superieur from ARE. Yesterday I planted Dakota Redwing from RVR because it was in a protected alcove and raring to go so out/ in it went. Today I planted Abe Darby and Evelyn from Heirloom. I put 6 Tea roses from ARE in 5 gal pots, since everyone boosts them that way. These are Adam, Baronne Henrietta de Snoy, Maman Cochet, Mlle Franziska Kruger, Mrs. Dudley Cross and William R. Smith. These plants look great and probably could have gone directly in the ground, but this way I'll have more planning time too. All my Tea roses from last January 2016 look like they wintered very well. I don't see any that look damaged. Most of the foliage is still on. There were three small branch breaks when it snowed on buds/flowers but not consequential ones. I worried about drainage here and clay soil at first 2 years ago wondering if it was adequate. I concluded so far that the roses like water and can do fine. My alcove still has Jesse Hildreth #2, Atmore Lamarque, Etoile d Lyon, and Arcadia Louisiana Tea from rosepetals. I am waiting to plant these for another month for Atmore to several months for the Teas. This way I can see how things look and where they would fit in best. My, this summer should be fun!...See MoreAny advice to save own root rose dying back?
Comments (12)I know how you feel. I lost a new one this year because I waited too long to repot. Like you, I didn't like the soil the nursery used. It was too heavy, wet, and looked like the roots just didn't want to spreat out or grow in it. When I did repot it, it had started to die back, and I considered taking cuttings from the last bit of green canes left, but didn't--thinking I was repotting in time to save it. I think it's dead now. I'm waiting to see if it will send up something new from the roots, but no signs so far. I put myself on a wishlist for another one, but.... I was going to suggest taking cuttings as a last ditch effort, but it sounds like you've cut it back already. Keeping my fingers crossed for you......See Moresummersrhythm_z6a
