Selecting an exterior BM white trim paint for SW Sea Salt exterior

We are painting our Florida home Sherwin Williams Sea Salt in a satin finish. The house faces south. I want semi-gloss on the trim so I am selecting a Benjamin Moore white paint. We have two double hung windows and three columns on a small porch with a railing so we will have a lot of white trim. I want a true white and have been considering BM white PM-2. Will this paint be too stark white with the sea salt? Is there a better choice? I don't want any yellow tones in the white paint.

A Sherwin Williams employee told me that he really does not recommend their semi-gloss. The house will be painted in a satin finish, and I wanted the semi-gloss on the trim. Our painters have no problem using the Benjamin Moore paint, and I thought it would be a good product since we are located near the ocean. Thanks for your suggestion. I could have Benjamin Moore color match the most commonly used white that goes with Sea Salt. However, now I am leaning toward BM Super White. Have you used Sea Salt with white in your consulting business? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks for any help.

deedee99 - you're thinking just as I was thinking! Tieing in the exterior door colors to my interior! I'm lame but I was thinking that most of my accent colors inside are the blue/ green colors w/ all of the interior walls being black, grey or some shade of white so I was thinking of my exterior doors as the outside accent that would continue into the interior accent colors. When I got home I pulled out my BM deck and was thinking maybe Caldwell Green HC124. A very dark green w/ lots of blue undertones.

I sampled sea salt, quiet moments and rainwashed. In my very brightly lit, wall of southern windows (that have white plantation shutters that REALLY reflect our bright green florida lawn and our equally bright blue skies) open living space the Sea salt turned bright blue, quiet moments gray, and rainwashed bright green. All three of these colors look radically different and more like paint chip in my bright east facing bath that does Not reflect a lot of green and blue into room. i mixed 1/3 of each sample (measured with a scale for exact replicable measurements) and came out with a beautiful soft grayed green blue). Playing with other ratios today with same samples. my local paint store wouldnt take responsibility for calculating formulas based on my mad science projects, so they gave me all three individual formulas for me to calculate what i want. They will mix to those numbers. i am having them do a sample tomorrow with that formula to make sure it comes out good. good luck everyone.

We ended up with Shoji and Urbane Bronze but think the general rule follows. I really had a hard time choosing whether or not to paint the soffits dark or just the fascia. Since we decided to not trim out windows, kept the garage door white, etc., we felt the dark soffits would add dimension. Now I am so glad we did! Think it would have looked a bit flat for me with Shoji soffits, but think dark soffits can look very heavy and clunky depending on other choices you are making and the style of the house. In general you will paint soffits either whole house color (white duck in your case) or whatever trim color you are using. Hope this helps! Sorry didnt have any whole house photos.

Your problem starts with selecting a blue gray white and a taupe. Look at the bottom row where I lightened Sea Salt. . . As taupe is lightened they go more beige Here are some of the selections you have tried and Pale Oak, which may work for you. You didn't specify what you didn't like about classic gray, but I am guessing it felt a bit flat. Etiquette is light enough that it really turns pink beige. Tough color to work with. Pale Oak is lighter than Sea Salt and grayer than Sea Salt, but is not so light that it goes beige. It has been known to go pink or purple if it is paired with yellows, but you only have blue and purple undertones, so I think you may be okay. An option that I didn't see anyone else suggest is sticking with Pure White. If it is glossy or satin on your trim and cabinets you could do an eggshell or flat on the walls and it will appear to be darker than the trim and cabinets. Another option is to pick either blue gray or taupe and change one of the two colors you have already selected.

Hi Kerry, I just got this comment this month. I did use Sea Salt satin for the exterior with Benjamin Moore Super White and I like it. On my house it turned out a soft green tone. The previous trim had a yellow undertone and before the trim was changed the house was blue The white has no real undertones. I did not want yellow in the trim color.

@Elizabeth Thompson - wanted to send you my post where I was debating Sea Salt and Rainwashed by SW. Sorry I can't hep with the Sea Salt... but if you are going for a coastal color, we love our Rainwashed! We've had a few people knock on our door to get the color.
