mixed metals in kitchen

Any thoughts on mixing metals in kitchen? I'll have a stainless farm house sink so what should I do with faucet and cabinetry hardware? Does it all have to match?

Sinks and appliances don't count. :)

I personally don't think faucets should either, as long as they aren't clashing, but some people like them to match.

I have a stainless farmhouse sink as well. Mine is paired with a shiny chrome faucet (Dornbracht Meta). I like the contrast.

I really like number 5, the white and gold one, but it's not right for the setting. Number 4 is very striking and would probably work. Number 3 is too mid/mod. For me, it's in the same category as 5 - cool but not right. Number 2 will be safe (three across). I don't like 1 or 6 at all. HTH

Thanks, everyone! Copper would definitely be a great complement to the oil rubbed bronze, but unfortunately, it's not one of our "builder grade" options. I also love polished nickel - it has a warmer tone that would probably complement ORB better, but it's pricier and more difficult to coordinate with our options throughout the home. I do agree that black and oil rubbed bronze can work together - in fact, our front door is a black metal double door with oil rubbed bronze edging. I do have some brushed gold decor items/accents that I will incorporate (i.e. an etagere, end tables, etc.), but I think we are still limited to some combination of ORB/brushed nickel or ORB/chrome for our kitchen faucet, cabinet hardware, and lighting. So which of those is better? Brushed nickel or chrome?

We have a room where finishes are mixed between gold and bronze, but adding the silver to the mix seems distracting in our case, and we're planning to change out some silver hardware for gold to match the faucets. Since you have the stainless steel sink, though, it might work to introduce a variety of metals, though obviously it's not ideal. Can you print out a color picture of the faucet you're considering and just place it in the area and see how you like it?

For cabinet hardware you can go brushed nickel (I think that's the one that matches stainless appliances), or a champagne gold to match your lighting fixtures. Make them champagne gold...not gold. I am getting champagne gold faucets and cabinet hardware. I will have linen/ORB colored lighting fixtures and stainless steel appliances. We will also have white cabinets.

Spend some time looking at kitchen photos on Houzz. Concentrate on looking at the hardware and fixtures. You will notice a lot of variety in how metals are mixed. None are right or wrong, but you will find that some will look good to you and some you will hate. Use the ones you like as inspiration for your kitchen.

Here is one I used for inspiration. I will also be ordering the brass bezels for my Wolf range, which I wouldn't have known they existed had I not seen them in the photo.

I like it mixed up. I have oil-rubbed bronze ceiling lights and cabinet hardware, copper pendants and sconces, stainless appliances, chrome faucet, and brass door/window hardware.

On this topic--I'm not sure I've ever seen a mixed metal fail. I feel like people post about different metals, but I can't think of any kitchen where I thought the metals were too mismatched. Maybe if you picked a metal that stood out, like brass or copper, and didn't repeat it? Curious what others think, since my taste leans eclectic anyway.
