Is she going to get a job? Something like a nice handbag or portfolio that she could use at work?

I would go with a really pretty upscale graduation card and insert a gift card. Down to earth, could that mean someone into sustainable, fair trade, organic, eco-friendly? Look into maybe a collapsible tote from a company that makes this type of product.

Sometimes the story behind the product can be just as meaningful as the gift. This generation is even more than ever about the environment.

I could have written this post myself, and almost did! I’m following to see what ideas the resourceful GW people come up with.

What is her major? Or hobbies? Do you have a budget in mind?

You can never have too many totes and bags like those above. A good quality nice tote seems like a good idea.

I like the idea of a weekender bag! I took a quick look last night at a few online stores. My top $$ is $200. I'd like to get her something good quality. The few all leather ones I saw in that price range look so masculine. Maybe a canvas one with leather straps?

Another idea on the same list was a monogrammed leather passport case, since many graduates will likely be doing some travel, now or in her future.

I have too many weekender bags, LOL! I have received many from MIL as gifts. I have a VB duffel which I use a lot. The LandsEnd one I just received this past Christmas is larger but just way too heavy packed. :( Now I'm looking for collapsible wheels so that I don't have to lug it through the airport again.

But I agree, that's always a good gift.

Something career related is always nice like a desk set, monogrammed business card holder.

I’d do a nice card and a visa gift card to let her pick what she wants/needs, plus take her out to eat, letting her pick the place.

Then, scroll down and look at the "shop this look" for things to go with. I have jewelry from this company and it stays looking the same as when first bought. Most of their stuff can be layered as it's a bit more delicate. Strong but delicate. The packaging is cute. Put all the little boxes in one box and she will have a lot of fun.

Stretchy bracelets are great for casual people.

Simple easy to put on earrings.

You could get her all this nice stuff for around $150. There is no middle man retail with these products so they stay reasonable.

What about something from a local artisan, maybe a print or painting that evokes your town or area or a piece of pottery, needlework, etc., that reminds you of her or evokes a memory of her with your family. ETA a quality made wood cutting board with a good cheese knife.

My daughter is graduating from college in a few weeks. Lo & Son's Catalina Weekender bag is the go-to bag for her friends there. I'd consider any bag as something I'd prefer to choose for myself. (none of those shown would appeal to me at all, for example) Unless you know she was looking at something special, I would not get that. Stick to either something career-related, or a piece of jewelry that she might wear.

I'm with sushipup on generally wanting to pick out bags myself and I wouldn't buy a bag for anyone I didn't know well enough to have an idea of likes and dislikes as well as needs for the bag.

Think about what you do know about her -- her degree, job plans or job if she has found one, possible grad school, where she is living now and where she may be moving (shared apt into an apt of her own?). I'd want to give something she could use in a new job or new apartment or jewelry to mark the occasion. A nice handbag, tote or brief bag can fit that bill if you know enough to select one or can give a gift receipt in case she needs to exchange it.

Could be an appliance or furnishings for an apartment. DH and I gave a Rowenta iron once -- not my typical, but they were registered for it and while I have the same iron and we love it, I would not generally give an iron for a family member wedding gift. I could live with graduation and china serving pieces for the wedding. LOL

Here in Texas, James Avery jewelry is always popular for graduation -- charms for high school and larger pieces for college.

And I am seeing discussion on another forum about Tieks or Rothy's as mother's day or graduation gifts. They could be a good choice for someone who will be on their feet a lot and needs to upgrade a wardrobe with mostly sneakers and flip flops. If you get the wrong size or color, exchanges are free and easy -- or you can do a gift card. Tieks does a small blue box with a smaller version of their flower for gift cards (or you can do an e card) == Rothy's just does a card, not even an envelope -- true to the recycled, minimal impact philosophy.

My go to gift for female family members is a pair of earrings from Tiffany. Even my super casual bohemian daughter wears hers regularly. The Elsa Peretti Bean or Teardrop is a favorite. This is assuming they have pierced ears.

Those are cute Annette! I guess the OP will know if the gal would appreciate an expensive sterling name brand. I'm not one of those but plenty of people are. I think a lot of young people would like your picks.

Justerrilynn, did you edit your post? I saw the first link but no photos yesterday -- bunch of them today. The young people I know would like those styles. Also the suggestion of an artisan, handmade item. Etsy and Uncommon Goods are good places to shop when you don't have a local festival or show going.

Lascatx, yes I did. Originally I just had the link to the necklace but decided to post the picture as well. Then, I got on a roll with things to go with. Then, I remembered the cool packaging. And so it went on...and on...

I actually think I might buy some of the items to have on hand for gifts. I like the mix of silver and gold because the recipient can mix jewelry they have with it.

OK, for a minute there I thought I was having an issue and trying to figure out where it was. Haha I have been known to buy ahead when I see things I like, especially if I have someone in mind for them. I used to start Christmas shopping in late spring or summer, but then I got married and had kids -- now I have Father's Day, and anniversary and a couple of kids' birthdays that make it a lot harder to get a head start. On the other hand, I never have to wait long to have an occasion for a gift.

Fouram -- they are good places to look, especially for the young and young at heart as well as those who appreciate unique or handmade things. Glad you think so too. ;)

I don't think jewelry is a good option in this case. She hardly wears any, usually just has post earrings. She does have a Pandora bracelet. My son buys her charms. I don't want to.

I'm going to keep investigating travel bags. When she comes to our house, she has an inexpensive nylon duffle. I think she will appreciate a nice weekender. I like the Lo & Sons bag Bestyears posted.

She will be starting her job as an environmental engineer(smart girl!) at the place where she interned the past 2 summers. She'll be living at home.

LOL, I thought my brilliant idea — giving my son’s GF a nice overnight bag for graduation — was so unique and creative! Not so much, I guess! For her it’s extra appropriate since they will be living pretty far from each other for at least a couple of years. They’ve been seeing each other for 6+ years (since 11th grade), and for the duration of college have been about 6 hours apart and now will be even further from each other. Anyway, I got her a nice Kipling weekender bag. DS confirmed that she doesn’t have anything like it and that she would love it. My first thought was jewelry too but she doesn’t wear much, and the few small items she does wear are from DS.

We have a few high school graduations coming up, too. For those I got Dr Seuss “oh, the places you’ll go” covered Tervis tumblers and inside the tumblers I’m putting gift cards to their respective college bookstores.
