Snowbird coming in for landing...
Comments (4)Welcome back,Gayle! Yes,it was just like early spring down here, the last two days. Our nighttime temps are only in the forties until at least next Saturday. Some hostas are already breaking ground, and montana Aureo is up with some leases already unfurled. Now if the critter that was nipping some of the eyes on other hosta will just go away. I even potted up some bare root hosta that a friend gave me to sell at our annual church bazaar in July. They were already growing in the bag of hostas they gave me,so they had to be put into some soil. There are lots of eyes showing in the garden. Bradford Pear trees are blooming all over town, and robins are back from the south. I guess they know what time it is! Phil...See MoreSnowbird prep, hot water tank question
Comments (15)"Why would i need to flush it when i come back? What does that mean exactly?" Sitting in the unheated tank ,the water will take on a bad odor, usualy like rotten eggs. Flushing simply means turning one or more hot facuets on until water has changed out in tank, turning heat to 240* and allowing tank to heat then once again turn hot facuet on long enough to change water. Quite simple unless you are on a private septic tank that might be temporarly overloaded by all the water. I am stepping away from your question for a minute to meddle. Do'es your area have a senior assistance program? If not,it;s time they get one. There must be people at your church willing to help, but you must ask because that's the only way they know of your need. As the last resort indicate within a few miles where you are located without giving your address and hopfully somone here will email you through GW offering to make a call or two on your behalf. Ok,got my home repair hat on again. As much as I would like to help,it is difficult because one must understand basic plumbing and able to use a few tools. Think of it as me asking for instructions on giving myself a haircut when I don't have a mirror, clippers nor scissors....See MoreSnowbird in the PNW?
Comments (12)@K S 7b Little Rock (formerly of Seattle) Often, disease resistance (and the lack thereof) is very site specific, so its possible that your location may be far more hospitable to 'Snowbird' than the site my friend has it planted. I can grow 'Tiffany' here and it never gets a blemish on its foliage, ever. That is quite unlike the experience most growers in our area have with that variety. So, you will only find out by growing it yourself. Its a beautiful thing, if it likes where its planted! Good luck....See MoreSnowbird (mini) wannabe?
Comments (22)To date, I have had very good luck with AirBnbs. Cancellation terms vary but are spelled out. If I understand the story above about VRBO, you had a right to cancel but it was not honored? Have your tried talking to your credit card company? You may even have a legal case. The entire reason you use a co. like VRBO instead of going direct with a Venetian landowner are these sort of protections. I used VRBO once, on Lake Lure. The ceiling had water stains and the approach to the cabin was akin to rapelling down a hill (not really exaggerating). You kind of only get one chance with lodging. I've not used them again. I think how to look depends on where you are looking. EG if you look on Vacasa, it is almost all Panhandle stuff. I know where we are in Maine, you find almost nothing on VRBO and Airbnb, it's dominated by one local realtor. So you may want to figure out the area that interests you and then determine which platform dominates. You may want to consider Mexico too?...See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
