I tried posting a scan of part of this a few months ago, but the quality was terrible. Here's a pic I took of this plant the other day while taking one of our drives through Rumsey Canyon in the Capay Valley, California. This isn't the best time of year for this plant, but you get the idea. The stems are reed-like. Any guesses? If so, would anyone know how I might go about propagating it? Thanks in advance! Marti, the necessary detail isn't there for an ID. Grasses, in general, are very difficult to photograph. You might try placing your hand just behind the spikes, because that will help the camera to focus. I'm pretty sure, though that your plant isn't Nassella neesiana, because of the distribution pattern noted here: http://bonap.net/NAPA/TaxonMaps/Genus/County/Nassella. However, it could easily be something like Nassella leucotricha (Texas Wintergrass), which is a common species in Texas.

Chickweed. It can only get a root hold on bare soil so if you can improve the lawn the chickweed should go. Meanwhile try to pull as much as possible before it drops all those seeds.

I don't have a comment on the shrub, but based on the foliage color and the seeds visible at the top and bottom of the grass photo, it's crabgrass. In my yard, as the seeds start to develop, the leaves and stems often develop deep pink to purple-marroon tones.
