Help with a 2nd Oven/microwave.
Comments (1)Tulakivi is great if you have the room and the cash. Advantium is cool or not because it cooks with a lightbulb. helps brown things and speeds cooking. Dacor/Thermador/Viking/Wolf/DCS/Gaggenau are all pretty much the same combo unit. Nice microwave with a convection element/fan for baking functions. Shop on control layout pleasing looks and price they are all made by Sharp or Panasonic and only real difference is the paint job. To me the only real oven / micro is the Miele speed oven if you seriously want to use as an oven. It has a drop down door too, and is the only one with a bottom + top + convection element just like the one in you T'dor range. It is as expensive or more than the Advantium. The previously mentioned brands are fine if you want to bake scalloped potatoes, a few biscuits, a pie or small frozen pizza. FOr serious baking it's a bit lacking. in performance and rack space. I have the Wolf version currently and Dacor 3 yrs ago. Also have the Miele at another house....See MoreSpeed Cook oven vs. Convection/Microwave
Comments (29)First I work in a deli and use a high speed commercial Blodgett convection ovens also use induction ranges. I cook at home every Sunday a large enough meal to feed 4 for the week, even though my daughter is as thin as a toothpick my son more then makes up for it (now 6.4" about 240) I've had the advantium for close to 20 years at home, my first was the 120v. It was a nice speed cook, a little weak microwave (only 900w) but general cooking times were much faster then conventional/ convection oven, especially casseroles, lasagna, scalloped potatoes etc... worked great! My oven was the Jenn-air, but I found to be too much to deal with cleaning to use any of the accessories Grilling frying etc, so it was really a waste of money in my new home I just have a convection oven with my Advantium. When I moved I added the Advantium 240v. even faster cooking, 1100w microwave & many more auto selections. I use my toaster oven for pizza, comes out a little better and my toaster oven is also convection so only takes a few minutes longer. The only time I use my lower oven is for holiday cooking turkey, or large roast, but even a roast alone I just use the Advantium in convection, I'll sear in large pot w/shortening, then convection in Advantium. The Advantium will sear but hot oil is faster method, and wont start cooking the meat, also searing gives off a lot a splatter. Same for steaks the splatter not worth it, a mess to clean, I just sear in pan on stove then auto cook in Advantium. I'm about to replace my Advantium (mines getting worn out). I don't think there is ANYTHING out there as flexible as the Advantium!...See MoreDouble oven range vs. single oven range & convection microwave
Comments (5)This is very interesting as I was thinking of a single wall oven plus a convection microwave as a second oven. We have a regular microwave as well. I really want the second oven for pies, keeping things warm etc but don't need 2 full size ovens as in a double wall oven. Consumer reports didn't seem to think much of the convection microwaves so that put me off. The microwave ovens would be on opposite sides of the kitchen which has some advantage. Any comments?...See MoreBest 24' wide true Convection + Microwave. Acceptable 2nd oven?
Comments (8)We bought the Electrolux Icon 30" speed oven April of 2006 for $1397 + tax. It is still our most used appliance, The New Icon Induction cooktop that we bought, comes in 2nd, and wayyyy behind those 2 is the Electrolux Icon Convection oven. All have been trouble free. We use the speed oven for "Speed cooking" not nuking yams and baked potatoes, takes bout 7 to 8 minutes (+ preheat time about 5 mins) The convection oven would take 45 minutes + (preheat Probably about 15 mins). Saves a lotta energy and the taters and yams come out great. I also use the speed oven for making toasts, roasting turkey legs, and dressing etc etc etc. When our new-fancy-expensive cooktop died(In less than 2 years Caldera) we even used the speed oven to boil water for spaghetti, as well as cooking the spaghetti sauce in it It boils water a lot faster than the Gas DCS burners, I have outside. Anyway now we have the Induction cooktop, so the speed oven is back to "More routine tasks" One thing we like about the Electrolux Speed oven is that it's "default mode" is microwave--so no fooling around with a menu if ya just wanna "Nuke something. Especially handy early in the AM as I use it to "Nuke my instant coffee" I just push 111 and hit the green start button. Very east also when ya not in a "Nukin' Mood" It has a button for grill, one for roast and one for bake or you canh choose "auto cooking" and follow the bouncing ball "A La Miele" Anyway, we wouldn't hesitate to cook anything in it that would fit, Wife doesn't bake cakes--so no experience there. Good Luck with your choice---I hope they make the Speed ovens in a 24 inch size Electrolux or the Miele, should that be your choice. The Electrolux does require 220 volt power instead of the usual "House 110 volt"--I suspect the Miele does too. Gary...See MoreBeth H. :
