This old thread got revisited. @dani_m08 to answer the question about extra probe, I believe I ordered an extra one when I bought the set up. The probe wire is just setting in the junction box I think but honestly I cant remember. When I laid out the underfloor heating and the probe, I just ran another probe near the first probe, and it was then sealed into the floor self leveling compound as per instructions. then the end was just threaded into the wall like the one that would be live, and not connected, but just laying there in the box. Regarding the tile layout. I just decided to run it this way, after getting instructions on the 90Degree way, IIRC. The herringbone that I love is from my childhood and the side walks in my neighborhood that all ran at 45Degree. so that to me is herringbone. I know you posted on @sochi thread about her amazing bathroom and a wall mounted faucet. I would totally do it if I had the right sink for it. In my case I had made my sink out of soapstone and an integrated backsplash. The pictures of this bathroom reveal are no longer available because of the use of photo bucket, when it was Gardenweb. I did not keep my account with photo bucket. I'll add some of the reveal pictures so you can see the sink and floor. Regarding the sink there is no ledge for water to drip from my hands when using the faucet. The water drips right into the sink. In my other bathroom with a deck mounted faucet I am always wiping up drips and it is a nuisance. I much prefer the setup for this sink. Below: Here I am finishing up the sink. the backsplash was epoxied on as a separate piece. The whole soapstone install in the room took next to nothing to buy as they were all small pieces that I epoxied together with a 3 part stone epoxy. Below: this is the counter at the tub, and is in 2 long pieces but I was able to epoxy them together at there edges to make a wide slab for the top. All the soapstone was finished with a 60 grit sandpaper to be rough and this lovely soft tone of blue/green/gray/white. I did not oil it so this color tone would remain light. Below: If I recall correctly @sochi helped me decide on this Hubberton Forge Mirror. I have 3 different metals in this room, but they are all a cool silver to black color. Below: the center of this tower shares space with the kitchen on the other side of the wall. there is also some extra space that houses some electrical wiring. this is an old simple house. this bathroom was an add on when it got move to the farm in the 30s IIRC. The plumbing was all rearrange and some of the details that were orignially there I kept but updated it, such as this tower feature. The old one went and the carpenter did a wonderful job with this one. Below: This feature was another thing I kept from the old bathroom but flipped it from the other end and had the carpenter put drawers in it. Before it was a hell hole. things got lost and the build was soooo old and creapy I didn't like using it for storage. Now it is perfect for storage.

Your current plan would work GREAT if you had a basement rec room or a above garage bonus room. If you don't, you will grow out of your house when your kids are school age/early teen years, IMHO. If you are planning to move to a bigger house when the kids are older, then this would not be a long term house for you so disregard what I say. liriodendron is also referring to the same issues that I am raising. I am writing it in a slightly different way... Since you do not have a basement, it is essential that you have a room where someone can go to be either noisy or quiet. It does not matter how it is used. Either way, you need a room which allows the person to be separated for noise, if needed. reasons: 1. One kid plays a musical instrument for school, where to practice? Where does the other kid do homework? where does the adult read the paper/book, watch the news? 2. Kids are playing on the Xbox (or the new thing yet to come).. where does the other kid/adult go? Are you and your wife willing to hear the endless noise while making dinner, doing the extra work that you brought home? I guess you can force your kid to wear the head phone or you go to your bedroom with the laptop... You can use the kids bedroom/adult bedroom for some of these functions. But it does not work that great if you make their bedrooms into communal rooms. For example, you can't really put the Xbox in a kid's bedroom. (many families do and you maybe one of those.) Since you do NOT have a basement, if this was my house, I would close off one of the rooms and get rid of one of the eating tables. The closed-off room with a door will be used as either a quite room or a noisy room, however way it works best for your family. At different phases of your life, it maybe used differently. Either way, you have the option of a room that has walls/door. Personally, I like enclosing the noise producing elements so that everyone else can have peace and quiet. Because of this, I would close off the media. In your current space, if someone is watching TV, then everyone else has to go to their bedrooms to be able to have a bit of quiet. Not everyone wants to watch the same show or play the same game. In your minds' eye, try to live in this house when your kids are 3(preschool), 10(school age), 15(teenager), 20(coming back and forth from college). You are designing your house first. Then the kitchen fits in that house.

Sorry, Cotton, I was gone most of the day yesterday, & I'm having rotten wood replaced on the house exterior today. Busy morning. I'm wondering about a more espresso colored "wood" tile? The one pictured is feeling too orangey to me. I think (just my opinion) that limiting colors with a look this clean & simple but elegant, is the way to go. I'd do a tile that is as close as possible to the vanity, then use light area rugs, maybe in your wall color, or white rugs with wonderful, luxurious texture. Elements on the floor in your cool metals, such as your trash can or towel stand, etc., will also provide contrast & interest. The way I envision it: Wall color, marble, espresso. Not wall color, espresso vanity, mahogany floor, marble. (Fwiw!) Too many different colors & elements will interrupt the flow, imo. (Others will surely differ on this!) This is a very restrained look you are creating. My take on it is to edit the superfluous.

One Devoted Dame-Thank you for your thoughtful words, even if I am tearing up a bit! My oldest has been very hyperactive-ADHD. This year, I discovered that genetically (her and 40% of the population) can't process folic acid (the synthetic vitamin). I have nearly eliminated her ADHD as a result of a drastic diet change...so this year has been life changing but also very challenging. The pottery space was not on the original wish list, but having her have her own space to 'BE' was extremely important. My girls and I love crafts, so I think the 7*11 space could work out well as a craft space, including for her pottery. I also can devote a space in the garage for it if she gets really into it. She goes from one craft to another. What I'm not willing to change is the built in bed/desk idea. Although if a kiddo doesn't like it, we can take it out and they are free to rearrange the space. My son is the gamer. I wasn't planning to give him a built in bed, but he really wanted one (I am putting a full XL in his space). What he wants is a larger desk space for a 3 monitor setup and a huge TV. He also wants this: So, I guess that would be his special thing. But, he also wants a garage to work on stuff like his Dad. Got to get through the house build before the shop goes up. I do think I like the rearranged girls' bathroom. It's more simple and should save a little between the HVAC/plumbing/electrical/fixtures. I think I would have to separate the tub/toilet space to make it work since both girls love baths..lol. I liked them both having their own hallway, but I guess when I think about it, I would have an easier time getting to both rooms with one hallway. I could also see them enjoying chatting in the morning while getting ready for school (yes, my kids wake up early....my son even sets his alarm for 6/6:30 to get gaming time in!)
