I can't remember what I pay for Prime, but I don't think it was at $99 last year.

I agree. It is money well spent. The convenience ... the service ... and since I have mobility issues, it has been a godsend.

OT: I recently read that Costco's membership payments make up the bulk of their bottom line. Never occurred to me.

Plus the movies and music! We use Amazon a great deal; there's no question that the membership fee is a good value for us.

I use Amazon a lot. It is so easy and convenient when I need something, especially during the winter. I will continue my prime membership when the cost increases

You get a lot more for the price now. I use their prime videos a lot, and I also get free Kindle books each month.

I use their grocery service too (though that's a separate fee).

I think the price hike is fine. I think it's only increased twice in the 10+ years I've used it, and they've expanded the benefits over the years.

I won't be renewing this year. I don't take advantage of anything except the shipping program, so I don't think it'll be worth $119 for me. Of course, that'll also mean that I'll be ordering less from Amazon.

We just got Amazon Prime a few months ago. I looked online at their movies and they're all made for Amazon type shows, similar to Netflix. There are only about a dozen, so nothing that even interests me. Bosch is one, which we do like, but we already watch it.

I will be renewing. I held out for years by ordering the base for free shipping, then I needed something fast and got prime. Since about that time every store in town stopped carrying almost everything I had been buying, I have really enjoyed it. It's getting worse. I couldn't find my vacuum bags the other day. Mine uses the allergen bags and I really like it (if you can like a vacuum cleaner), Amazon to the rescue.

I can't find the books I like at the bookstores anymore (I do not like ebooks). I actually prefer to buy in a store so I can touch and compare, but that is not an option most of the time.

Since I do like the two day shipping, I check Amazon and Walmart, then pick the lowest price.

ETA: I don't use any of the other stuff, such as movies.

If you have grandchildren, Prime is awesome. Lots of kids stuff to watch on Prime.

Dh just said we are grandfathered in at the price. We will see.

It's worth it for us. Our whole family uses it. We get Christmas every week with all of the packages that show up. The schools don't supply the books for reading anymore. When I get that notice that we need a book, I can have it ordered before the kids even get home. It usually shows up in a couple of days and they have it when it is needed for class. At Christmas, I was invited to two white elephant parties. It was so nice to shop from home and not have to go anywhere and risk exposure to the flu.

We've been Prime members for years, and the extra $20 won't stop us from renewing. We buy from Amazon several times/week, so free shipping absolutely pays for the membership fee. Plus, we watch a lot Prime movies/series on TV.

Jasdip, I wonder if the Amazon prime video selection is different in Canada than here. We have countless free options....TV shows, documentaries and movies.

Yes see I only use the purchasing aspect. No movies or music or anything else. And I don't order much now. When they had the $79 special price I considered it but even then I couldn't see I would benefit enough. I know my sister will keep it. She orders for all her kids and grandchildren though.

I use it for purchasing and for movies. At $119 I may drop it when it comes time to renew next November. I did drop it for a while when it went from 79 to 99, but then I broke my ankle and was house bound.

Being in the computer business, my computer tech orders almost daily and so he has the Prime account. I'm lucky in that I can get him to order anything I want.

It’s so worth it to me especially at Christmas time. I bought all of my children and grandchildren their presents and never had to leave the house. No standing in long lines. I like being able to read the reviews too.

What is the main advantage, other than movies, over regular?

My husband haggles with them each year and gets our rate a bit lower as we only use it for shipping and nothing else. We do end up getting a bit of a discount.

It seems to me that every once in a while they put the one year of Prime on sale. You just have to be ready to jump on it I guess.

Rhizo, like your Netflix, ours is garbage. Very old out-dated shows. Everyone I know that has Netflix, uses a VPN to access U.S. Netflix. But the government has been coming down on Netflix who won't let users use a VPN.

Amazon Prime is the same. I looked at the choices yesterday while at my step-father's and there's nothing on there I'd watch, much less pay for it.

I always thought Prime would be a waste of money...until we signed up about two years ago. Now, I can't conceive not having it. Yes $119 seems excessive (as does $79 or $99) - but I have mine split into monthly payments, I do pay a little more that way, but it doesn't give me that "Ouch" moment all at once.

I will definitely still renew. We live in a small town, a long way from a city, so I order from Amazon a lot. We also watch a lot of the TV shows and movies. If you break it down, it's about the same as Netflix price wise .

I have enjoyed Prime for many reasons. I liked that for $9.99 a month I could "rent" up to ten books at a time. I liked that I could purchase a gift and have it arrive quickly for when I "almost" forgot a special event. With that said this last year I have experienced problems with Amazon. For example, items listed as Prime with Prime two day shipping either do not offer the shipping time at checkout, or arrive much later than expected. It has become so commonplace to not receive these items when promised that I am back to visiting local stores. This might be the year I give up Prime.

Just saw the price increase a day after the notice of Amazon's big increase in profitability. Hmmm.... But I will renew. I was leery about getting it a year ago - DD talked me into it. As my mobility has decreased, I'm using Amazon more and more for lots and lots of things, so I do believe that the free shipping done quickly has more than paid for itself. I don't watch their videos that much, but I sure do order - two orders this last week alone!

As more and more stores are stocking less and less, I'm not even bothering with them. Needed a new corded phone that could go on the wall in my kitchen, replacing one that "died" after 30 years. Not one local store of any kind actually had this in stock! Apparently, everything is cordless and a corded wall phone is practically up there with the Dodo bird. Well, just try talking on a cordless and cooking at the same time - ones chin will disconnect a call instantly! And I do receive calls when I'm cooking!

I've been buying from Amazon since 1996, and have almost never paid for shipping. I just accumulate enough items (usually books) to qualify for free shipping before I place an order. Sometimes it can take a week to get things, but quite often I get a shipment within 48 hours.

I can understand paying for Prime if you want the streaming services, but it seems a waste of money to do it just for the shipping.

I find it odd that people would cancel over $20. We won't - we more than make up for that with our frequent purchases and entertainment via their streaming service.

We bought our daughter a Prime membership when she moved out of our house. We renew it for her every year, at Christmas. We also buy her a Sam's Club membership.

When you consider all Amazon has to offer: 2 day shipping included (not for all Amazon but for a lot of it) movies and tv series and music, it's really not a bad deal.

Amazon has been a retail game changer in too many ways to name and Prime makes something great really great. Prime video with its original produced content is icing on the cake. I'll gladly pay for Prime no matter what the cost is.

Blue Onblue, we have had that experience too, where "Prime" items take much longer than the two days they're supposed to take. When this happens, we send an email to Amazon complaining about the delay, and typically they offer to extend our Prime membership by an extra month to compensate us. I would guess we get two free months each year this way - well worth the 2 mins it takes to send the email.

I try to reframe the cost rise, and instead of seeing it as just another higher price, I ask myself if an extra dollar or two a month is worth the constant new innovations by Amazon. Without them, the world would not have commonplace free two day shipping. And I am sure that the future will bring more innovations.

We’ve had Prime for years. The issue I have is that you almost ALWAYS pay more for an item when it’s a prime seller as opposed to when it isn’t. It may only be a couple of dollars each time but when you order alot, that adds up and realistically, we are all paying more than 99/yr already. Also, Amazon is using USPS more and more and at least 50% of the time it takes longer than the 2 day shipping time to get to us.

Just last week I ordered something for my DH and it took 4 days from the time I got the notice that it had shipped to get to us. We’re also starting to buy less in general so I don’t know if it will be worth it for us this next time, this is the first I’ve heard of it (Thanks for posting about it Raven) and we have until November to decide.

We’ve had it for years. But I seldom get my order in 2 days. It’s about 50-50. I often order just a few things that wouldn’t meet the minimum order for free shipping though so I guess in the long run it’s worth it.

I’m not excited about the USPS taking over their delivery as that is adding to the delivery problems. In my area anyway.

Our 2 day shipments always arrive on time, and in one day sometimes too.

Lucille, that's a good point. Amazon has changed shipping for everyone. It used to be you'd have to wait a week or more after ordering from other stores but now most companies offer fast, free shipping. My Chewy orders arrive in 1-2 days now.

We tried a $69 per year introductory PRIME offer a few years back and did not renew. It was too convenient, if that makes sense. I had FedEx and UPS trucks coming down my driveway 3-4 times a week. I now maintain a shopping list and order much less frequently. Also, I find that oftentimes articles I've previously ordered tend to cost more for later purchases. I comparison shop prices at Lowes, Walmart and EBay and will go with the lower price which often is not Amazon.

DH and I "share" an account with our son. For the 3 of us, it makes it quite affordable.

Luckily mine just renewed last month. I figured it would go up soon because of the free shipping & how many people use it.

I only get 40% of my items in 2 days. Most things take 4 - 5 days to arrive. I’ve also waited 3 months for items shipped from China.

Were the things that took 4-5 days described as Prime 2 day eligible and sold by or fulfilled by Amazon?

We live in a very remote place (outer Cape Cod). It's over an hour round trip to Hyannis where some major stores are, and an hour and a half round trip to cross one of the bridges over the canal to other big stores. I just don't bother anymore. The money I spend on Prime is well worth it.

seagrass, the outer Cape is one of my favorite places. Have spent many happy summer weeks there, from Orleans to Truro.

I need to take better advantage of Prime if I'm going to keep it. The problem is I spent the better part of 35 years having to order nearly everything I owned from JC Penney, Sears, Monkey Wards. There were a lot of disappointments. I like to know exactly what I'm getting.

love Amazon Prime., have had it for years. all the kids are on the account so it gets used often, 3-5 per week. they buy their college books on there and then return them.

i use Amazon Music, Photo storage, videos and books. order ink for printer on a Sunday night after 6:00 pm and it was on our front step by monday morning!! what's not to love!!

DD's friend is getting married. she set up an Amazon wish list (wedding shower items)., DD ordered gift and was sent right to house, easy peasy, no shipping costs!!

they now have a warehouse in our area, so everything gets here quickly, sometimes under the 2 day shipping!!

Elmer, yes mine were. I think that is why they offered a refund. Because of the screw-up. There were 2 items that were not very expensive.
