Need deeper pot than gallon size to pot up clematis
Comments (5)I think the idea of potting up once at least before putting it into the ground was so that it had a chance to develop more stems. I agree, roots coming out the bottom in less than one year is happening to me as well. I did figure out a larger container, a juice pitcher - drilled holes in it. While potting up one yesterday I ripped off half the roots entwined in netting to keep out snails. We'll see how that survives. Thanks for your ideas. Comments (14)Badgergal's arrangement works because there are grounding elements for the artwork and an echoing symmetry. Your arrangement doesn't have that across the wall. You'll see that the horizontal pair of pictures relate to the pair of chairs and side table. The grouping of four relates to the console. Of course, you can always do what you want! You live there and your aesthetic won't be the same as another's. As long as you enjoy it, that is all that matters. But I think you are in a quandary because of trying to work with those two pieces in a way that causes an unbalance between the elements. I'm a huge fan of using what you have, but there are usually alternatives to furniture arrangement. There will be degrees between what works and what works well. If you absolutely do not want to move the cabinet (near the entry?) and give the chair a table to use for drink/remote/glasses, then I agree that a collage of framed art would be an option. Maybe something similar to this arrangement. See how low they take it? Use that idea and have the bottom of the arrangement a bit below the height of the chair arm. Your collection could be anything from paintings, prints, photos, or a variety of items that mean something to you. Placing one or two of the larger items over the cabinet will anchor it as it moves across the wall. Re-potting?
Comments (8)Yes, most of those aerial roots are dead. Hard to give advice without knowing anything about potting materials available there. Here is about the same latitude South and most orchid society members do not grow Phalaenopsis, why bother, when there are many orchids you can grow outside in the yard with a bit of shade-cloth for cover. If you decide to continuing using spag, you have to match your watering routine and temperatures to that medium. Looking at the caspar milktoasts in this room, they have lots of aerial roots that are alive, so why are most of the aerial roots dead on your plants? Do you have a temperature/humidity gadget? added via edit. A florist, told me that she tells customers to water Phalaenopsis once a month and that might be on the money seeing how much water spag holds. For now, enlarge drainage holes and reduce watering. Seek advice from local orchid societies re. optimum medium for Phals there. Cut the spent flowering spikes off at the base. Given good growing conditions you will get new spikes late next autumn. In a different better draining medium I water about once a week in winter and maybe twice a week in summer....See MoreWhat size range, 30" or 36"? Need opinions!
Comments (12)Do you intend to continue using a microwave oven as a hood surrogate, or replace it with a real hood? How would a 30-inch microwave oven even pretend to ventilate the cooking plumes from a 36-inch range? Maybe there is a 36-inch OTR microwave out there somewhere. Personally, I wouldn't start renovations without having a plan that was as firm as possible, with every electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc. detail understood and preferably in a drawing unless the contractor is a friend whose early retirement you personally want to finance. kas...See MoreSpanishFly - (Mediterranean)
