Buying Birkenstock sandals in Germany/Prague

I am planning a trip to Germany in October. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with buying Birkenstocks there. I don’t mind paying for them retail in FL but can really only find a good selection on Zappos.

If they are easier to find and try on in Germany maybe I will wait.

Any fun travel trips for Prague, Germany and Poland welcome as well

We used to order from a place in Germany and they were much cheaper, like maybe not quite half off. Germany carries a bigger size range then the US so I am jealous of you!

The place we used to order from no longer ships to the US. I am guessing it is some sort of import/tariff issue. See if you find an internet retailer that ships to the US when you are there please.

I just ordered some from the actual Birkenstock website. They have a huge selection. I think Birkies are priced the same everywhere so no benefit buying from one place over the other.

They are cheaper in Germany. For instance, on the German Birkie website, the women's Gizeh, velour leather in silver are about 65 euros (incl tax but not shipping) , which is about $80.00. Here, they are about 125.00 on the official Birkenstock website

Great recommendations - but I so agree with Joanieponie about going to a walking store to try shoes on. In fact, I think Joanie started another thread and that was my suggestion. What works for one person may not work for you. Someone above suggested Puma. I have those shoes; loved them before this recent bout of PF - but even before, don't think I could have walked extensively in them. I went to a store that sells only walking-type shoes, Birks, Naot, Clarks, Keen, etc. I tried on many, many shoes, including Finn Comfort, which are supposed to be the ultimate. I found them too heavy. In another thread, someone said they didn't like Olukai or Vionic. I bought four pairs of shoes, Olukai (the leather thong), Vionic, Aetrex and Naot. I love them all. I love all of them; they are all suitable for different occasions. I do love Naot and will probably get more of those for the fall as, although, the Naot are closed-toe, the others are all sandals. Everyone is different. I agree with those above - I am not a tennis shoe person, except for walking or going to the gym. But there are so many other options out there. Good luck!!

Are there any slim feet people here? I have to share my new worlds most comfortable sandal from The Flexx shoe company. They have a stretchy section. Love! I'll be able to do lots of miles on vacation. They have a 1 1/2" heel. Here is the link at Nordstrom. It says they fit true to size but if they fit my foot perfectly they must be at least slightly narrow. I wouldn't pay $80 for those shoes, much less $800, but I pretty much knew that before I opened the thread. I wear a size 12. I think I wore a size 10 by the time I was 10. It was a constant struggle to find shoes that didn't have significant heels or look like they belonged on an 80 year old woman with foot problems or a man's shoe. In fact, I was told more than once just to wear men's shoes (not that they fit a foot that was on the narrow side). I'm sure that has something to do with why I could never wear Birkenstocks, Converse, Vans or others. But I will also never buy Jimmy Choos -- not that they are even made in my size. To date, my shoe extravagance has been Tieks. But I had to look. ;-) ETA: for gender equality and shoe aversion accuracy

dhygarden, in reading the American Airlines CITI card agreement, it makes no sense to buy additional Allianz coverage. The benefits are identical. Thank you for bringing that up. It is included with our card fees, so we are paying for it, but it's more economical than paying for it by trip. We are travelling to a music festival only to find that one of the acts we wanted to see canceled altogether and another one has had a key member pull out from the tour due to illness, so we are stuck with the travel unless some other covered circumstance happens. No refunds on the concert ticket, and we bought VIP. This is not the first time we've been burned on a festival. Never again! Especially since we both had to navigate major work schedule changes to be able to go to this. UGH!!

No recollection of the details but DH bought his first pair there many years ago. I think the exchange rate was extremely favorable at the time.

I'm not a Birkenstock wearer, but I noticed that Rieker shoes were very inexpensive in Germany.

In general, clothing and shoes are quite a bit more expensive in Germany. A pair of regular Docker pants will run you about 150.00; ditto a pair of Levi's 501.

Buy chocolates in Germany, and crystal and amber jewelry in the Czech Republic
