Please help tweak our living room
Comments (39)Ahh, it looks better with the jungle, hee, hee. I wonder if the plants would help the giant picture window feel less off kilter. (All the windows and doors in this room seem so weirdly placed to me and mess with my strong desire for symmetry!) The only problem I can see with the metal table is that we'd be tempted to put stuff on it that could then slide onto the heater. You'd think we were allergic to clutter free horizontal surfaces. :-/ But who knows, maybe the just-right piece will pop up to put in that sliver of space. I can see how it would help keep the couch from the heater. Thanks Kippy! Yes, I was trying to keep the piano separated from the spot where some of the kids do school. My DMIL comes to the house to give piano lessons every few weeks (bless her heart!) and the piano lessons going on while they're trying to do their schoolwork is very distracting, besides the day-to-day playing....See MoreHelp me design our new open Living & Dining room with built-ins!
Comments (2)Thanks Patricia for taking the time to read my post! I agree with the built-in banquette seating. My finance is pretty convinced that it's a great idea for big family dinners (which is funny since most meals we eat out OR eat in front of the TV since we live in a condo and it's only the 3 of us). As for the pictures, I took these with a wide angle lens, which unfortunately distorts the edges of the pictures (ie like a fisheye lens, but less severe). I took them like this to fit more of the room into a single snap shot. While the drawing isn't 100% to scale, it, for the most part it shows the correct scaling of the walls, nooks and crannies. We're mostly hoping to have general furniture layout suggestions to keep the room looking not awkward, with clean sight lines from walking up the stairs, out the patio and from the kitchen (far screen left in the diagram; it's cut off, but will be a full kitchen that has a pony-wall overlooking the stairs)....See MoreHelp me design our dining room please!
Comments (19)Ooh I like the one hung row babophz posted. You could do a few shelves above it too for special occasion dishes, etc. I guess it just depends on how much stuff you need to store. I like the grey and glass idea, although white and glass is probably good to give a little tie back to your kitchen. The problem is that it’s impossible to tell if your wall, rug, and the grey cabinets have the same undertones. If the cabinet undertone is wrong it will throw off your entire room. Can you order just one door to see if it works? I don’t think you need a new rug because if the cabinet color doesn’t work with your rug it also won’t work with your walls....See Morehelp me design our new living room
Comments (14)A whole home color palette doesn't mean that you will choose one color for your entire home, but like coordinating an outfit, the colors used in each room will tie that room to the rooms that are next to it. Most of us have colors we love. My sister loves fall colors, muted moss greens, orange reds and golds. I love purples, teal and reds. The idea of selecting a whole home color palette is to select a neutral color family that works with the things that you can't afford to change or don't want to change and the colors that you love (colors found in your art and décor). Then you pick a white that works well with your neutral and then you decide how and where you want to incorporate your colors. My sister's home is beautiful, but my art and belongings would not look good in her home. Her art and belongings would not look good in my home. In the home below you can see where the colors move from green to purple with a room in the middle that has both colors. They chose a white that works with both of their main colors for all the walls. This home carried the colors from the main living area into the bedrooms and bathroom using wall color....See MoreElle
