Comments (16)I do have some pics already we tried to take them Easter morning. We left a big Easter Basket of fruit on their porch and the note said to Goldilocks and her bears. I do not know how to transfer a websight but if you google black bear rehab boise Idaho the websight should come up. And if you google Black bears in the news video boise I bet it brings up a video I saw once. If you see a brown fence thats mine lol. My husband made a ledge for us to stand on so we can watch them over the fence. Try that websight and if you don't come up with it I'll send you what I have which is difficult to see, because they have shade cloth over the top and it makes the lighting as dark as the inside of a cow for the camera. But oh brother when friends that don't know that there is a bear rehab there and not many do because it is non profit and no visitors are allowed, anyway when we have company and a bear lets out one of their loud growels. you should see the look on our companies faces. They say" That sounded like a bear, real close too". We smile and say no, not "A" bear, about thirty, they live next door lololoolol. Anyway I am going to try several of the ideas but the one idea with the jugs of syrup wouldn't it attract mosquitos? Oh Lord they are the worst to me. Well I will keep waiting to see what others come up with also. thank you so much for giving me ideas. I will write a new post about what I'm working on. Comments (5)Put function over form. In your case, given that it's also a bathroom for use after swimming, I'd absolutley include the shower. This is alot coming from me, because I am very picky about not having a shower in a powder room, and went to great lengths in my own remodel to ensure that our powder room didn't have one. But, we don't have a pool. We don't have people traipsing through the house to get to a shower. No, you really need the shower in that powder room, in my opinion. And you can totally make it as beautiful as any powder room you've seen here, I'm certain of it. As to the camouflage, I'm sure it's doable, with a good carpenter, for a cost. On the other hand, if you do a really beautiful shower, and you can get over having a shower in your powder room, then why hide it....See MoreHelp me think through countertop/sink/water issues??
Comments (9)Thanks for all your thoughts. I think the biggest problem is that on the 10' sink wall, there isn't a wider area to make a natural transition between counter materials. The biggest I could do is 39"ish (the size of the window). My perfect sink is probably white cast iron, but I'm afraid of having that sink run look forced or chopped up with different counters. If I did wood, I was planning to Waterlox the heck out of it. But I'm also concerned about the expansion/contraction of wood that breaks the silicon caulk between sink and counter. I'll check out the Fine Homebuilding article. Thanks for the tip. The warm, older look is exactly what I love. The fridge counter going to be at least 30" deep so I thought it would make a good baking surface (soapstone). Lots of room to spread out the dough. Sounds like maybe I should revisit soapstone...That was my first love before heart pine drew me away. Yes, sw_in_austin...great memory. My uppers and fridge run cabs are planned to be cream/off-whiteish. Autumngal, I'm glad to hear that your wood counters are holding up well. We're a splashy, messy, experimental family too. Maybe I should just stock up on the vino. :-) Bmore, I'm gasping at a $2k sink. My sink price creep is crazy. I initially wanted a $200 sink, then a $500 sink. Now my husband points out a $1k sink with a totally straight face. Eeeekkk!!...See MoreHelp me think this through
Comments (32)I don't see where anyone has said they were against a Battered Woman's Shelter and most of the replies seem to be very Pro Shelters being available. Only the objection of putting such a large complex in a residential area. More so such a large complex. Yes unfortunately there is a need for shelters to be available. The group I have been working with for years has smaller houses for emergency shelter of battered women and their children in neighborhoods the home owners are private and have the room to shelter for short periods of time families in transition. First Rule: DO NOT TELL ANYONE WHERE YOU ARE!!!!! Second Rule: File a restraining order to give the police power to take away a violent abusive husband if he does find you! The locations are kept very secret and rightly so for the protection of the owners and the families sheltering. The women are informed they are not to give the location to any one at all but In many cases the locations leaked out because a woman staying felt the need to contact another person (some just absolutely know their momma or best friend isn't going to tell anyone) and break that major rule. One young girl let her abusive husband's mother know the address so Grandma could "Send the kids birthday cards" 2 days later the husband showed up and sweet talked her into "trying again" "he'll get help" yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah. Smart devious non violent tactics. Nothing to call the police over. When she came to us her arm was broken, she was black and blue all over and both eyes were blacked one swollen shut. Twin boys 4 yrs old and a 6 yr old daughter (he would never hurt), cringed at a wave of the hand or a shout. OMG. but they weren't HURT! She loved him, she missed him, it was her fault he beat her. She took her children and left with him. Just knowing "Everything would be alright now". All 3 kids were crying and one actually peed his pants to have to get into the truck. Few months later the abusive hubby beat her into a coma for back talking him. This was called a DOMESTIC DISPUTE by the police! Seems more like attempted murder to me. I have not followed the case so I do not know what happened to the woman or the kids. I can only help so much and it breaks my heart I couldn't do more but her choice to go stopped the help she could have received. The house location compromised and can not be used again even in emergency, The couple who own the home had threats made against them and their home for a few months. Luckily nothing ever happened except an occasional unfamiliar vehicle drove by slowly. This is in a remote location so strange vehicles are noticed. No one really wants to have a large group shelter in their neighbor hood but you wouldn't believe where some shelters are when they are small, discrete, kept in strict privacy and in a network of loving trusted good people. Yes Yes We care. Yes we want to help. YES the fact is there nothing anyone can do to help a woman who is not going to believe abuse doesn't go away because the abuser says he is sorry. I'm trying to help in many ways but I do not want a large complex shelter in my residential neighborhood....See Morecawaps
