Glass Panel Interior Doors

I am replacing three interior doors in my condo for my remodel - the master bedroom; master bath and the guest bath

The style of the doors will be more or less like the first door in the picture.

I am thinking of doing glass lites for all doors - obviously something that is not transparent.

FWIW, I live alone and don't generally have to keep my bathroom or bedroom door closed.

Would it be odd to have glass instead of solid wood doors - especially in the guest bath.

Some old houses here have obscure glass bathroom doors with glass on the upper half.

I think it would depend upon the layout of the guest bath and the obscurity of the glass, because you can go all the way to heavily frosted or near white that lets light through but is essentially non transparent.

If there is some reason that you want light to pass between rooms like that and you are not worried about resale, I don't know why not on your own room and inside your bedroom, but I am not sold on the guest bath or bedroom.

Wilson Glass looks to be a good place. I haven't ordered mine yet, but I have gotten an estimate and it seems really reasonable. The glass will actually be made at a glass place somewhere in your general vicinity, though it might not be real close, and then you have your choice of getting it delivered - for a seemingly reasonable fee - or picking it up.

They are basically the same. We put in all new solid core interior Masonite doors, and then a year later decided change a sliding glass closet door to solid double doors. The Masonite design was no longer available, so we went with a similar style Jeld-Wen door. I don't notice any difference at all in terms of quality. Go with the best pricing. And if you are painting them, have them done with a sprayer.

There are a couple of ways the wood panel can be set into the door. In the first, a rabbet is cut into the edge of the stiles and rails of the door. The panel is laid against the ledge formed by the rabbet and molding is nailed in place to hold the panel. Here is an ARTICLE showing how this is handled. In the second way the panel is set into a groove cut into the stiles and rales. Here is a PICTURE of how to put glass in place of a panel set in grooves. (The top half is the relevant part of the drawing.) Remove the panel by cutting out as much as possible. Chisel through the panel that is still in the groove in several places to break it apart . This panel should be floating, so once part of it is removed the rest should pull out easily.

Not really as you have an anodized door. Typically anodized aluminum needs to be dipped in a solution to remove the anodized finish as you cannot effectively paint over the anodized finish. Will it work, and last as these are old, maybe, maybe not.

Very uncomfortable for guests on all fronts. Frosted glass still lets you see shapes behind it. And you can discern skin from clothing too. It is NOT private.

Use it on your bathroom if you want, but not on the bedroom or the guest bath.

We have frosted glass on the french double doors on our master and on the bathroom in the master. I have never had a privacy concern, and it lets light in to what would be a darker middle area of the house. I think glass doors can be a nice way to let light in, and give privacy by blocking sound.

I was in a door store and there is a kind of opaque material that is an option. It was installed on their public bathroom and nothing could be seen from the exterior - no even a shadow of what was inside with the light on. I made the guy go inside so I could make sure. I don’t know if it’s a brand name but in the catalog for Trustile doors it’s called laminate - perhaps the material is called something else by different manufacturers.

I don't think it will offend the tender sensibilities of anyone using it and it certainly will be a "lighter" option for what is a rather dark interior corridor with a low ceiling.
