Pictures of the doors interior and exterior? Pictures of the jambs may help as well. If they are anodized aluminum you cannot just paint over them they need to have the anodized finish chemically stripped (not inexpensive and they need to be dipped).

Hi! Sorry I should have included some pics. As I mentioned, they slide perfectly but look like crap. And I believe they installed an incorrect size. So there’s 2 things...plus I’m sure the newer doors are more energy efficient and probably safer in general. So I would love your opinion about if I should just bite the bullet and get new doors. If yes, which brand and material? Thank you!

Would replacing these doors need to be done with Impact Rated Doors?

Building Dept. Most all of Fla that I am aware of requires Impact Rated product. You would need to Google I suppose or call your local building dept. Where in Fla are you located?

I’m in Orlando area. So let’s assume that if replaced, it has to be impact rated.

I would look at PGT or Marvin Essentials were it me then. PGT being aluminum more than likely and the Marvin being Fiberglass Exterior/Wood Interior.

We've been very happy with our pgt impact sliders. They're vinyl, not aluminum. pgt makes both.

Hmm, I was just told by a door installer that the aluminum would not pass the Energy code. Has anyone heard of that....obviously must be a Florida thing.

Not really as you have an anodized door. Typically anodized aluminum needs to be dipped in a solution to remove the anodized finish as you cannot effectively paint over the anodized finish. Will it work, and last as these are old, maybe, maybe not.
