Friday night: what was your main meal today?
Comments (17)I went to a monthly picnic potluck in the park. We had salads, tacos, chips and little smokies in sauce along with cupcakes and mini cinnamon rolls. It's true potluck and you might have only 4 people show up or twenty. It was a good turnout with a lot of variety. There have been times when it was only desserts. DD met me there with the grand kids when it was toward the end so we could spend some time together. DGD entertained us with a song and dance she performed on top of an empty table. The world is her stage and she loves to rock out. LOL. She's 4. She wanted her 2 year old brother to take a turn but he was busy passing out Cheetos to everyone so we would be orange like him. ;-) Spent the rest of the day with DD and kids. Before I came home I drove another 12 miles to a diner I like. They have an extra special turkey club. it comes with avocado and cheese in addition to the turkey, bacon. lettuce and tomato. It's huge and the turkey is fresh roasted and cut thick. That was dinner with fruit on the side (watermelon, strawberries, bananas and cantaloupe....See MoreWhat's your meal of the day fare today?
Comments (23)Walnut Creek, your request for a recipe led me to the box with the recipes written on scraps of paper bags, fancy embossed stationery, and notebook paper, all in the beautiful handwriting of long gone family....my mother, her mother, her mother's mother, and aunts from two generations. On the top of my mother's recipe is the phone number of the butcher whom she had "trained" to select and grind the meats for her. Thank you! Grandmother's Ham Loaf 1 lb. Coarsely ground ham 1 lb. Ground pork, not too fatty 1/2 lb. (or more) Ground chuck 2 large eggs 1 cup milk 1 cup cracker crumbs (crushed white crackers) 1/2 tsp chopped parsley S&P Baste with: 1/2 cup each brown sugar, white vinegar, and water 1 T dry mustard. Simmer the baste ingredients for five minutes. Baste the loaf several times while baking. [One large loaf or two smalls. Grease the pans.] Bake for 60 minutes @ 350. My Mother's Hamloaf 1 egg 1 lb coarsely ground ham 1 lb coarsley ground pork, lean 1 cup tomato juice 1 cup cracker crumbs 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup chopped green pepper Same mustard sauce as a baste. Short cut: buy the cuts of ham and pork (and beef) and let the butcher grind them together. Coarse grind is a must. I'm sure that there are lots of recipes on line, too. P.S. Comments (33)Friends of ours had a 50th Anniversary party last night at the hunt club with about 85 people in attendance. The catered meal was sliced beef tenderloin with a horseradish sauce, chicken marbella, smashed potatoes, roast asparagus and roast carrot sticks. When dessert was brought out, I was talking to a couple who run a local winery and so got in line for dessert late, and just missed the last piece of chocolate pie, and the other two options of coconut cake and rhubarb cobbler didn't tempt me....See MoreWhat is/was on your plate for your main meal today?
Comments (49)Spicy Chickens wings and a salad. That was our lunch today. I'll probably have to eat something light for supper like a couple of Rye crackers with tuna, pickle, onion and pineapple....See More- 8 years ago
