beekeeperswife - Thanks so much for your reply! I LOVE your kitchen and feel like I'm writing to a celeb b/c your kitchen has made it to the BIGtime. Really! Your gorgeous kitchen is one of my inspirations and your layout (kitchen next to family room) seemed similar to mine tho I can't remember whether you had the same ceiling in fam.rm. I've never done the 50% trick --but it sounds like a great idea for the vaulted ceiling. I want to avoid the stark color difference that I have now w/ the straw/vanilla icecream and reddish (I forget the color) accent wall. I also love your table and chairs in your kitchen -- would you mind telling me where you got them? I want to do a 42" round with leather chairs. Thanks again! caroleoh, thank you too!!! I don’t quite know why Houzz sent me a link to this older thread but my update is this: Joan from For The Love of a House Blog knows what she’s doing. Her Ashwood was lovely in my master bedroom. Then, when we bought a new build house in 2013 I decided to try Titanium, also Ben Moore, also from her house. It read soft but tiny hint of green in my well-lit western exposure master bedroom. We paid an up charge to the builder to have a nice light taupe painted throughout the new house so my husband thought I was certifiable to be on a ladder repainting the Titanium over the new walls on the first day we had keys. Of course he was busy taking up all the carpet so he could lay wood floor the same day. The Titanium was wonderful. This past year we moved to the Deep South and I used her Gray Owl throughput the entire house we are in now. It’s my favorite and does read just a bit blue in some lights. (There May Be BM Stonington Gray in the kitchen and both baths. Just sayin’) And totally agree with 6009kitty on sample pots. Never paint without a sample on your wall. And I don’t mean a 12” square either. Light makes a lot of difference. Greenery out the window can change things too. Test it. Red

That changes my suggestion, yes…. Thinking you have a lot of the same (I have Revere Pewter on my walls and ! I have your floor tile in a bathroom). What I have found to be the perfect accent color to all the taupes and whites is black…I bought two new spool chairs in black…I added two end tables in an Annie Chalk black paint on either side of my white English arm sofa, with white lamps, and have a wall collage of antique botanical ferns that I reframed in black. But, not any black…B.M Midnight 2131-40. That is what I would paint the vanity. As for hardware, in a bathroom, I like chrome finish…bright and clean, but that is your choice. Otherwise, brushed stainless is my choice. One word of warning, sometimes brushed nickel can look pink, or sometimes a grungy yellow tone. Not my favorite.

Without seeing the floors, it’s very hard to say, but somewhere in this post you can see my wood look tiles in my bathroom which are gray and it looks awesome. I would recommend getting a sample and putting it up in the basement. Since I assume there is very little natural light, the tone will largely depend on your lighting. If your flooring has a warm gray tone to it, it will probably look great. If it has a bluish cool gray tone to it, you’d have to see how it looks side by side. Hope this helps a little!
