Rocks #4 marble, granite, quartzite
Comments (150)So just so I have my details clear - quartzite and granite are the best choices for durability in a kitchen correct? Did I read that quartzite can still etch, but doesn't scratch and that granite doesn't etch or scratch? We spoke with the owner of the granite place and they will replace our stone. As much as I love the super white look I need something that won't cut when the pizza cutter rolls off onto the counter and that won't etch badly if things like fruit juice are spilled on it. Any suggestions on what type of stone is best as well as any more specific suggestions on a light color that has a similar look to super white? Thank you all so very much for your help!...See MoreDoes anyone have Shadow Storm Quartzite/Marble?
Comments (67)Shadow Storm Quartzite Marble is a unique and rare natural stone that has been used for centuries in the construction of monuments and buildings. This type of marble is highly sought after due to its distinctive dark gray and white veining, which adds elegance to any space it is placed in. Homeowners and builders alike are on the hunt for Shadow Storm Quartzite Marble, but finding it can be difficult. The marble's popularity has grown significantly over the years as more people discover its beauty, so locating a quarry that stocks this particular material can be challenging. Additionally, it may take time to find either slabs or tiles large enough for larger projects. As such, many have turned to online forums where they might be able to find someone who does have Shadow Storm Quartzite Marble available - allowing them access to this sought-after stone at a more reasonable cost. Comments (40)UPDATE: - So today they came to address some fabrication issues. Specifically markings (made with some sort of white-out marker) made during the fabrication process. They didn't indicate how they were going to get them out (and then reseal with a 25 year sealer (is there even is such a thing?)). They were supposed to address oddly cut corners on a narrow (bar shelf for lack of a better description) that should have been straight on the sides and the demi-bull across the face. What they did was attempt to wrap the demi-bull edge around to the flat sides. Needless to say it looks crappy. They were to address an poorly cut notched corner. 1) Markings.. - HOLY C...!!! What a horrible job they did. I wasn't here but my wife said they used steel wool to get the marks out. One set of marks (looks like the stain from the bottom of quart size can and some words like "Saturday" (or delivery day). What happened was they ruined the factory polishing in those areas. It looks really bad. Apparently the used the same method for the rest of the smaller markings. I don't know what they sealed it with but the previous sealer actually looked good. It had a nice shine to it. This is much duller and you can see even more swirl marks than before. 2) They said there was nothing they could to about the oddly cut edging on the bar shelf. They didn't have any more material to make a new shelf. 3) The other poorly cut corner was actual done well. Lastly, their customer relation skills for this crew (of 3 and different than the other 2 crews sent previously) were horrendous. They were rude and condescending to my wife. So tomorrow I have the job of contacting the fabricator and conveying our displeasure. *I* really want to tell them to issue a full refund and come get the counter tops. Hopefully they will cooperate since they have botched this from the get go....See MoreDoes anyone have Mont Blanc quartzite? If so, would you post pics?
Comments (31)@Thao Le I like the subtle sheen of your honed Mont Blanc quartzite countertops. Please share whether you have had problems with staining? If not, kindly share what type of sealer you used. I plan to use Mont Blanc for my upcoming renovation but given the porosity, I want to be sure my contractor uses a sealer that is proven to properly 'impregnate' the stone to prevent staining....See Moredawnwawn
