Granite - Can I go with BOTH leathered and glossy
Comments (1)I was thinking of doing the same thing, but still not sure since I have committed to Blue Pearl Granite. I was going the use leathered Cambrian Black with polished Brown Shada. Brown Shada lost its sparkle when we tried a sample in our kitchen, so we dropped the idea. I think should do what your heart tells you, then you won't be disappointed. Ask this question on Rocks #4 Marble, Granite, Quartzite forum. Maybe it will wake everyone up on that discussion again! Karen...See MoreCountertop Geology: Marble and quartzite and granite, oh my!
Comments (162)I am so confused and frazzled. Every time I think I have a handle on this durability and non porous thing, I choose a stone and after research find so many things potentially wrong with it. I saw a beautiful slab of Macaubus Fantasy, but have since seen mention that it will stain. I need something that is fairly indestructible. I live near the beach and have lots of company, but I am often away for a week at a time and not around to keep wiping the countertops. Even if I am home, I don't want to baby a countertop that will never grow up. Which of these stones should I stay away from and which are definitely good? Macaubus Fantasy "Quartzite" Allure Quartzite (does practicality increase/decrease if it's leathered?) River Blue Granite Or are my only sure choices Taj Mahal or Sea Pearl? I'd appreciate any feedback...See MoreEtching tests on marble, quartzite, and granite
Comments (26)My sealed Taj M quartzite has seen a lot (messy cook here). The only situation which gave me pause was a blue ink stain from a glass bottom coated with the ink. Probably sat there two hours before anyone thought to remove the glass from the mudroom counter. A little barkeeper lifted it up where soap sponge failed. Hooray. Love the stuff. Still running my hands across the surface two years in......See MorePretoria granite -- kksmama?
Comments (22)For what it is worth, my husband's frequent complaint about my design choices is that they are boring, and every time I've let him push me into getting something actually interesting or bold, it has become my favorite thing in that room. I never say yes to his suggestions when I flat-out hate them, but if I get into a "I kind of like it too, but is it too much?" kind of query, I'm learning that I should just go for it on those. I always end up loving them more than any of my safer choices. I think maybe we're all a little stuck in the quiet inoffensive neutrals because they're unambiguously fine. We're never not going to think they're fine. Buyers are never not going to think they're fine. It's safe. But they also don't inspire the same true love that something bolder does. They're not memorable or fun or exciting. They're just fine. Sometimes it is a great idea to have a little more fun, and in your shoes, I'd go for it....See Morekksmama
