DS dropping out of college
Comments (72)My son had similar test results, but his processing speed isn't as low. His "diagnosis" was Non-verbal Learning Disorder ... which seems to cover a wide range of things that don't fit into other more common diagnoses. Medications were never recommended in our case. Luckily he has an incredible memory, so he is able to do well on school tests, but he loses points on basic assignments that he avoids doing. Regarding quack doctors ... one of the first docs we saw was a top, long term guy at Mass General. He was close to retiring. He met with my son for a whopping 10 minutes and wrote out a prescription for medication. I walked out of there and would have ripped up the prescription if my DH didn't stop me! From there we found the Hallowell Center where they did the extensive testing and suggested ways to help DS. As I said, no other doc has ever suggested medication. I'm very glad I didn't listen to that first "expert"....See MoreA good Facebook story
Comments (12)Similar thing happened here just last week. We're in a rural area, more & more people don't have land-line phones and they don't neighbor like they used to. Lady called saying her dog was missing and wondered if we'd seen it. Unfortunately no, so she left her cell # in case we saw or heard anything. The lady did not have a land-line so people couldn't get ahold of her. That night a friend posted a picture on Facebook of a dog that was lurking around her home and it matched the lady's description. Good ending. But does confirm that all pets need tags with a number to get ahold of the owner....See MoreDS got into his first-choice school!
Comments (36)Ded, LOL, nice hat. Why didn't you put it on and then take the pic? Coincidentally, a hat arrived here yesterday -- DS went to some fan web site and ordered himself a hat. I don't think it's the same one, though. ;) Sandy, I think you told me this months ago and I'd forgotten! Thanks! We are staying at the convenient SU Sheraton for drop off but will be looking outside the city for parents weekend, which last year was the first weekend in Nov. but since Halloween is that Fri. next year, I hope it's going to be a different weekend. Someone recommended the town of Schineattles which I KNOW I've spelled wrong...not sure exactly how far it is from the school, but sounds like it's a pretty area to visit. It's fun to hear from DS about his friends getting notifications from schools. Seems like there is at least one every day (and so far his friends are all getting good news!)....See MoreDS was left on school bus
Comments (7)I realize that this has been resolved but thought I'd comment for some that may read it at a later date. I have driven school bus. Bus drivers have a really tough job, believe me. I've worked with teachers that have driven after retirement and they said they couldn't believe what a difficult job it is. That being said, It is not uncommon for a child to fall asleep on a bus, and sometimes they forget to get off. It happens. We were required to check our bus before leaving it between routes, and at the end of the day for sleepers. It was an immediate termination for any driver that left the bus with a child on board. No excuses, or questions asked you were gone, as it should be. It was also suggested that we take a couple minutes between schools to check for belonging or children left on the bus. Your sons situation is why. I'm glad you got your call and it was worked out to your satisfaction....See Moreeld6161
