Flooring Design Dilemma entry

Entryway flooring transitions

I must replace entryway flooring in my Georgian home because of insect damage at the entrance. It is unlikely I can match the engineered wood that was installed 30 years ago.

Since I have THREE distinct surfaces visible together --slate, wood and carpet--this might be an opportunity to remedy a design flaw. Should I replace the entryway flooring with slate (assuming I can find the 10 year old slate tile) for a continuous surface to the back of the home?

If I kept hall flooring wood should I replace the adjacent LR and DR carpet with wood? What about the stairs?

New wood for the entry and the carpeted areas. A tone that will go with the wood already on your stairs. I think I would put wood on the stairs too if it were me. I am not sure how you keep that carpet on the stairs so clean.

I think either of those options are good. Tile is nice and durable in an entryway. Wood would look great throughout the carpeted areas, especially the dining room. Never liked having carpet where I eat. Which you choose depends on what you think will look better.

Okay, I think I see what you are getting at. I should be able to lay flooring into the doorway with ease and then maybe screw down a straightedge to the door frame (or pocket screw it in place) and route a perfect line. Then it would be alot of small adjustments, but I'd rather do that on one filler strip than every floor board. I should have said, the boards meet this doorway edge on, that is, the boards are the long part of the T and the doorway is the top of the T. Thanks. Anthony

I have sunken living room with 3 carpeted steps down from both entry and kitchen. Considering LVP or LVT(as I prefer stone-look to wood-look) BUT am concerned about transition to carpeted stairs. Since LVP is thin versus real hardwood it seems that any bullnose they might offer is vulnerable. What is your experience with such a transition? This is new construction. ========= A thread on this forum used this glue down product and is pleased. "We have the Mannington Adura Essex Oak LVP, glue-down. Been almost a full year and we love it. Even the other contractors who came in afterwards thought it was wood, not vinyl! Hi. Just bring a sample of your stairs wood color when you pick out wood look tile. I had my stairs done and picked out porcelain wood look tile close to the wooden stair stain color. Best of luck❣️
