Got my Hortico roses today!

Wow. I was in shock when I saw the shipping charges. This probably will be my last order from them. I got 4 replacement roses for ones that didn't break dormancy last yr, plus I ordered 8 more. Shipping was $56.42! Yikes! And these aren't even potted roses, they're light weight bareroots. One very wonderful surprise in the order tho... I had ordered the florist rose FANTASY to replace one I got yrs ago that died last yr (or the yr before?) but Nicole told me they had crop failure on that variety. But... apparently Fatima found one little grade #2 that made it, and they gave it to me for free! I will definitely have to baby it for sure. I got lowered prices on a couple of the DAs I ordered due to them being low grade. But hey! That's cool. Also got an extra JAYNE AUSTIN due to them being so small. They did that last yr with my GINGER... got 2 plants and both are healthy monsters right now! Soo... even with the high shipping charges, I'm happy!! They're all out soaking in a bucket of water. Will either pot them up or stick them in one of the raised beds I use for veggies tomorrow. Only doing a few tomatoes in huge nursery pots this yr, so the raised beds give me lots of room to put new roses til I can get them planted.

Glad ya found your invoice Lilyfinch! That's a good thing that Hortico does.... charging less for a smaller plant. And believe me, most of the time they make up for it. Like I said, I got 2 tiny GINGER roses last yr, and right now they are big ol' things sittin' in the raised bed waiting for a spot. I think I will donate the second one tho. Don't need two of them.

I'm very anxious to see that new rose ROYAL KATE. Not much about it anywhere, but I did see pics on the image tab of Google. Looks like a pretty pure lighter pink.

Lilyfinch you will love CHANDOS BEAUTY. Mine got up to (almost) 6ft last yr. It goes from a pinky-white to a creamy apricot and even some yellow tones depending on the temps.

That's great you got so many roses!! And if you divide 56 by 12 they were only $4.67 to ship each . Now that doesn't sound so bad does it ? Lol

i was wondering about mine.. I got a few that said 1.5 grade on the tag but I don't know if I got a discount. How do you know ? Maybe the invoice was in the box and I lost it ?

I hope they work really great for you! I can't wear gloves. I don't have much sense of touch in my hands any more and the gloves just make that worse. They make me very clumsy and inept and I'm afraid I'd cut off a finger not notice, lol!

Pretty petals...500 roses! I have en entire back yard that doesn't have a single flower/shrub, etc., ..but I'm pacing myself. :-) Rose_crazy - the soil is all that but there are still chunks of that deep red sticky clay. I can't recall any place that has yellow roses down here....but I have seen other bush roses (nothing this pretty I don't think!) Let's hope they adapt and I can keep the happy! Diane...thank you! The yellow/purple combo has become my favorite and my son had no idea when he bought the Get Mees. He just knew I needed plants and his "new tradition" he said was going to be to buy perennials each year. (I like that tradition!) Your Get Mees look great. You did get Goldstern from Tantau. I wanted the Cants Gold Star but I got the Goldstern instead. I have grown Goldstern and it grows into a tall shrub. It is listed as a climber but Tantau says it is a shrub. I kept it down to about 6 feet. You are warmer so it may have to be disciplined in the summer as well a spring pruning.Blooms well and had no BS in my garden. Here are photos for you.

Yes Lilyfinch the prices are on the invoice which is on the outside of the box in a clear label holder. And yes, to be fair, that isn't so bad of a price for each one. I think the shipping price was higher due to the amount of roses they shipped. It was a pretty big box. The shipping is less when there's 9 roses or less.

I think that's it . I thought there was more but they didn't have distant drums in stock so maybe that's all I got . I can't find my email invoice :)

i know the shipping charge is shocking . Especially since palantine sends 9 for $30 and they are three times to size . So I try to reason with it by division . Also it was a joy planting these little guys ! Most of palantine I had to re dig my holes twice !

I did find the price reduction for smaller rose on the invoice which was also on my box, Lily.

Lilyfinch - I love my Chandos Beauty!! The smell is wonderful and the plant is tall ( 3 1/2 feet) for being in zone 3 in a pot. Please show pictures of your roses when they get flowers...I'm especially interested in how St. Swithin does for you...fragrance, flowers, etc.

carol you bet I will .. I planned on driving y'all nuts with photos all summer long !! I think you and oldrosarian mentioned how beautiful Chandos was so I had to have it . I did a lot of ordering this winter so this year will be my best ever .

Beautiful Beth ! Thanks for the photos . I can't remember where I planted it lol . I planted prob 40 roses in my new bed expansion . I need to make a map before I can't see the tags anymore
